I’m booked to have a hip replacement on NHS next Sunday. I’m told my consultant is working all bank holiday weekend getting his list down. According to the consultant’s secretary, the pre-op assessment clinic is way behind and none of us has been screened yet. The clinic doesn’t work weekends so there are 12 of us who are now wondering if our ops will be cancelled because the support isn’t there. The vast majority of hip replacements are done as day surgery now.

That's because they are. The watchword when my father got the op working was Leonardo da Vinci's comment that the body's a marvellous machine, so they used engineering skills to fit the implants. As quick as changing a motorbike cylinder, your job is to heal - 11 days - and then exercise. Gently. The only reason to be in is if other medical conditions impact that.

Now it’s difficult for them to sent bailiff without proof of my dad actually escaping payments, they then threaten my father with bailiffs , and they’ve came once but my dad told him to p off because he have no legal knowledge, he thinks he’s job is just to collect peoples money. The problems of the NHS won't be solved just by throwing even more money at them. What the money is spent on is just as important as the amount spent - for a long time now a lot of the money has been spent on the wrong things (e.g. masses of 'diagnostic' tests, many of which are unnecessary).

The NHS currently is far exceeding its work load of any previous year. What is going up faster than the work is the demand. Our hospitals are full, patients are being treated in huge numbers, it is not on its knees. You ask the staff, they are working harder than ever before treating ,more people than ever before. However the demand is outstripping the capacity and if you just look at the unmet demand you are doing a great disservice to the NHS and its staff. An outsider could be forgiven for believing this on its knees criticism thinking nothing was getting done. Its is getting done but as people get older they get problems not seen is such numbers in the past.

This is complete horsehit. It’s not a labour thing or a Tory thing. It’s the incompetent ministers playing political football with the NHS and not really understanding what it’s about, because they have no background in it. This year there are 1000 trainees leaving medical school WITHOUT a job from august. So where are all these people going to go? There’s a ridiculous bottleneck as you progress through training. So what happens then? As a reward for getting your house in order, those with the lowest waits get to….. work more. Jee, thanks. What a reward.

The problems of the NHS are caused primarily by demographics and secondly by the poor system (single-payer healthcare) the government adopted after WWII. Beyond reforms that abolish the NHS in favour of a market, the government can't solve the healthcare problem. People are having too few children, and especially too few high-IQ children. Those of us alive can't even benefit from any real solution that's implemented. It's absurd that people think you can spend more money and solve the problem.

You do realise that Labour caused the problems of the NHS when they opened the floodgates in 1997. The Tories have just continued Labours mass immigration policy and made it so much worse. You Lefties always cry that there is not enough funding, newsflash, there will NEVER be enough funding as there too many people demanding its services. Immigration is the sole reason the NHS is failing and no amount of screaming every ist and ism under the sun will change that fact. There are simply too many people for the service to handle and thinking that Labour will fix the mess they started is absolute lunacy.
