back in the sixties/seventies everything/everybody had to be a group. emerson didn't need a group but he had to play the game and give a job to his band members. one of my greatest memories: seeing/hearing Keith Emerson at the bath blues festival

Even by the standards of the late 1960s there was some thing very shocking about keith emerson's performance on stage . Any lingering victorian values that there were still around then he would certainly have put an end to them !

The Hendrix of the organ and then some! By his own admission, Keith's fusion of rock with classical and his his stage act were both inspired by English keyboardist DON SHINN (RIP), look him up.

Without NICE there had been no ELP. Don't forget about it. They opened the door for jazz/classic inspired rock. And Emerson was advancing fast because the Nice were such a good band! He had all the freedom for improvisation through this rythm section. I love the NICE. And i like a lot of ELP. But from the Nice i love every record that they've made. ELP had some weaker moments too...they existed longer & recorded far more albums of which some are incredible,but others less enjoyable. But a matter of taste. Maybe you have another impact of them than i had.😂😊😅🎉❤

Thanks so much for this! I bought Five Bridges when it first came out and always preferred the sound of The Nice to ELP. Such goodness in this video, makes me smile!

This is a fantastic compilation. It's hard to be absolutely sure, given the amount of grainy black and white footage floating around of the Nice playing the same material, but I don't think I've seen a couple of these clips before. I totally lost interest in ELP and prog but stayed loyal to the Nice: there are some moments in here that show why. And lots of great Brian Davison stuff too. Bravo!

i found a lot of the bass and - especially- the percussion was repetitive and might just as well gone for a beer and a smoke and left keith get on with it. not their fault; i'm sure in other situations they were good value..

This YT video is an historic gem of the first order. Long have I wanted to watch and hear the Nice in their 69 heyday. I was 15 years old when I first heard Rondo 69 in the autumn that same year, and I remember every note and every squeal from that Hammond Organ with Brian Blinky Davidson beating out that insane tempo, and Lee Jackson plucking that bass line.

Thanks. It was the sheer improvisation and rawness of The Nice; that ELP didn't possess. However the singing, bass playing and drumming; were far superior by the latter. British music for at least 20 years (possibly more); was far more innovative than 🇺🇸 No offence. 😉 Best wishes 🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸
