In order for this theory to be plausible, The Night King must have magical abilities of _"necromancy"_ AND _"the sight."_ Through _fire_ and _dragonglass_ magic, he can see, speak, or command visions in the flames (like what happened to Varys). Both of these abilities can see glimpses of the future, while the other one can raise and bring the dead back to life. Let's take a look at the evidence: 1) *Necromancy:* All the wights, the undead polar bear and the Hardhome episode (and perhaps Beric or Jon's resurrection). Necromancy also means "the act of communicating with the dead in order to discover what is going to happen in the future." 2) *The Sight:* The Night King sees Bran and grabs him during his vision. Bran sees and talks to Jojen Reed in their visions. They both have "the sight." 3) *Flames:* All the _visions_ the characters saw are mostly about going to the North. _The Hound's vision_ was going to Eastwatch and some mountain beyond the wall. _Tyrion's vision_ was bringing the dead to Cersei. While _Melisandre's vision_ was fulfilling the prophecy-bringing Jon Snow and Daenerys together. In the *Night King's plan,* all the decisions by the characters are their own, but he vaguely showed them visions (Melisandre, Thoros, The Hound, Tyrion) and willingly helped dead characters back to life (Beric and Jon Snow) to influence somebody's decisions and ideas and for his elaborate plan to go forward-setting a *trap* for whomever would go beyond the wall and capture a wight _("bring the dead to her," "I sent Alliser Thorne to King's Landing")_ so that once they're surrounded, they would seek Daenerys for help. To ensure the chain of events works, he purposely let characters go _(The Night's Watch at Fist of the First Men)._ In the beginning, they didn't kill one of the Night's Watchman. _(It's also a direct parallel to the "Beyond the Wall" wight hunt.)_ Once the messenger was let go, a series of events happened and news spread from Ned to Benjen to Mormont to Sam to Davos to Melisandre to Bran to Jon to Tyrion and finally, to Daenerys. Eventually, someone is going to pass on this threat to Daenerys _("We need to send a raven"),_ and when that time comes, she would finally fly beyond the wall. And that's the moment the Night King would ultimately acquire an undead dragon AND _destroy the wall._ "The past is already written. The ink is dry." The Night King is the Lord of Light. And in the end, *no one* is going to kill the Lord of Light. Some may be inaccurate, you decide. It's just a theory of mine (created before Season 8).

We are giving D&D too much credit for thinking this was a master plan that the night king had to get a dragon unless george told them about it but I don’t see George being that stupid with sending them beyond the wall to capture ONE wight and not use the dragons they already have available to help in that master plan lol it would make more sense if in the books jon thinks he can lead a small party to kill the white walkers or whatever version of the night king the book will have sorts to mirror the plan qhorin halfhand had to kill mance in book and season 2
