The Night of the Long Knives is considered the first act of horror committed by the Nazis. What happened in Germany, and in Hitler's rise to power, that led to this organised purge in 1934?
Caught between the conservative tendency and the revolutionary aspirations that were dividing the country at that time, the Chancellor had to choose a side. To calm the rumours of a military coup against him, Hitler intended to send a clear message.
From the 1920s to June 1934, this first episode takes us into the past, shedding light on the sequence of events that led to this night of unprecedented violence, which marked the birth of Nazi Germany.

Funny how the murder of Kurt Eisner (leader of Munich Soviet Republic in 1919) serving life, but ended up doing '5 yrs' is never talked about. *Anton Graf von Arco auf Valley had to vacate cell 70 in 1924 for new most popular inmate to then narrate/write his 'Struggle'. Both were Austrian born, anti-semitic, WW1 vets from Munich Army of Germany, part J€wish, wanted to be part of 'Thule Society' (the who's who of Naz| leadership were members) & anti-communist. One was Nobleman which dressed in style & other super common & poor. One got 'Hugo Boss' to design SS uniforms & other died June 1945 in Austria after truck crashed into wagon he was in.

Excellent except that the male narrator misspronounces the Weimer Republic. He calls it something like Vee-aye-mar. This is like calling America "Aim-rick-a." The producer needs to change this because it detracts severely from the excellent show. (Otherwise, the male narrator does well).

Hindenburg should have just made the move and told Hitler nothing. Imagine what could have been. I hope we listen to history. Those in high places must have the testicular fortitude to give a certain orange man his burn notice.
