I think my favourite subtle scene after watching all these years is while Jack is contemplating the most complex ways to explain Christmas, Sally arrives to give him a gift out of kindness while he is struggling. In essence, she gets what Christmas is in its most honest form. Showing you care for someone during their most trying of times.

The final scene between Jack and Oogie has always been one of my favourite scenes in the entire film. How often do we get to see a final battle between hero and villain where the hero never has that cliche "looks-like-they're-about-to-fail-but-then-wins-by-some-miraculous-feat" moment? Jack never falters, never struggles, and remains confident the entire time. He just straight up murders Oogie. For most of the film, Jack is revered and respected by the townsfolk, and this one scene makes it very plain and simple as to why. He can go from walking like a gentleman to crawling like a spider in a heartbeat. Bonus points for none of that hero's remorse we also often see, where they sometimes toss up whether or not to kill a villain. Jack just gets it done.

I also love his big reveal how he positions himself knowing he's gonna be turned right-side up when Oogie sees him. Like 'Whats up, fuckface?'

Fun fact: This movie is a commentary on selling things early. That is EXACTLY how this movie came to be. Tim Burton was in a store back in the late 80's and saw them selling Christmas and Halloween decorations right next to each other, and it just triggered this fantastic idea for a movie.

They do this to minimise the amount of unsold seasonal products. They have to reduce their seasonal products after the event passes which results as a loss.

Fun fact: Tim Burton wrote a three-page poem titled The Nightmare Before Christmas when he was a Disney animator in the early-1980s. Burton took inspiration from television specials of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964), How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966) and the poem A Visit from St. Nicholas. On the 2008 Special Edition Blu-ray/DVD release, Christopher Lee narrates this poem with a new animated visual accompaniment.

I have that particular DVD, and that reading by Christopher Lee is no less than amazing. On another note, I once heard somewhere that Tim Burton DID have ideas for a sequel/spin-off where the other holidays are looked at from the Halloweentown perspective, but due to Disney being in the low budget sequel phase at the time of the suggestion (and that Disney wanted it done in CG animation instead due to how costly stop-motion tends to be, much to Tim Burton's chagrin), the idea was scrapped... or, at least it was, until Capcom somehow convinced Tim Burton and Disney to do a sequel as a game (which I thought was pretty good, all things considered).

There's a book called Long Live the Pumpkin Queen, which is about Sally and takes place after the events of the movie. It's about her having to come to terms with how her life (afterlife?) has changed after becoming queen of Halloween Town. In the book, they *do* go through some of the other doors (at least one of them, haven't actually finished the book yet). Jack and Sally have their honeymoon in Valentine's Town. It's a good book, you should check it out sometime.

Danny Elfman was also the voice of the Clown with the Tear-Away Face. I thought he was also the voice of the Behemoth, the zombie-like creature with the axe in his head. Catherine O'Hara, from the Home Alone movies and Beetlejuice, was the voice of Sally and Shock. The late Glenn Shadix, from Beetlejuice, was the voice of the Mayor. The late William Hickey, from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, was the voice of the Mad Doctor.

My favourite moment is as Oogie turns the table thing and Jack is just casually lying on it. The way the music works in that shot, and the confidence in Jack, right alongside the fear that is so obvious in Oogie, just brilliant. A genuine goosebumps moment for me.

The best part is that Jack's paper 'spider snowflake' is not only unexpected, it is _physically impossible_ to make a paper snowflake that looks like that that way. It is your first hint that the citizens of Halloweentown *_physically can't_* do anything other than Halloween. The second hint is when Jack's trying to teach the Halloweentown musicians 'Jingle Bells' and they play the right notes _in the wrong key_ and make it into a _somber funeral dirge._ Later on, they're doing the same to Here Comes Santa Claus. They're _musicians,_ they know how to read music, how to play on-key, on beat. And they _physically can't _*_NOT_* play these energetic happy songs as slow, sad dirges... despite practicing hard and trying as hard as they can to do it right ever since Jack taught Jingle Bells to them. Their 'Christmas' would never be Christmas, it would just be Halloween again, at Christmastime... it never would have worked out because while the people of Halloweentown certainly like the idea, they lack the capability of doing anything that ISN'T Halloween. It is literally foreshadowed from the moment Jack starts trying to figure Christmas out EXACTLY how Jack's Christmas will turn out... not MIGHT turn out... WILL turn out.

@Joseph-jy1hw It is possible to make it, but not possible to make it _the way Jack did_ because the spider snowflake is not quadrilaterally symmetrical. You can recreate the snowflake, yes... but you can't do it by folding the square twice and then cutting, like Jack did.

It's not just a movie, it's a way of life. In all seriousness the movie has everything. A visual style unlike any other movie's ✅moody romance ✅theatrical, distinctive music and poetic lyrics like "Like a memory long since past, here in an instant gone in a flash" ✅an inappropriately morbid sense of humor ✅and most crucially, a rare lesson to appreciate what you have because not all dreams are meant to be ✅ Man, the initial stirrings of the score as the title card comes up? Pure magic for me. Not everyone gets the movie but confound it all, I love it though...

Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (the PS2 game you mentioned) is a pretty interesting and (in my personal opinion) fun experience. It's not a masterpiece, and it has some flaws, and can be a bit repetitive and simple, but the voice acting, art direction, sound, music, and how fun it is to actually play as Jack and explore the Halloween Holiday world much more expansively than in Kingdom Hearts makes up for some of the tedium, I believe. As for how it starts... Jack, having learned his lesson from the movie keeps to his word and tries to embrace who he is and appreciate what he has... but, he's still stuck in a rut. Figuring that going out into the world to try and find new discoveries isn't a bad idea in of itself after Dr. Finkelstein shows him something new he found, Jack leaves town for a while. While he's out, the three brats Lock, Shock, and Barrel decide to bring Oogie back to working order (because they still revere him), and the big ol' sack of bugs wastes no time enacting a plan of revenge. Upon Jack's return, he finds the town is overrun with hostile monsters, scared townsfolk, Dr. Finkelstein brainwashed, the neighborhood entirely and maliciously boobytrapped, and the holiday leaders of other holidays kidnapped, with Oogie himself running the show. Jack decides to take it upon himself to show WHY he's so loved, respected, and feared by everyone in Halloweentown, and kick some serious, spooky ass.

To me Jack Skeleton is so iconic he is the Santa Clause of Halloween, as far as I'm concerned he is The King of Halloween.

There are two Nightmare Before Christmas games, both about Oogie. NBC The Pumpkin King is about how Jack met Oogie, and NBC Oogie's Revenge is basically a year after the movie. Would absolutely love a reaction to Oogie's Revenge Cutscenes and bosses!
