Diane in a brown wig means this must be early indeed for her, since the reason she had the wig was to fool people into believing she was Anitra (who was herself on a sabbatical at the time). @JohnH5118 жыл бұрын
+James Bonnen Not exactly. The networks still can't offer network programming in that time slot. What they were allowed to do as of 1996, but not previously, is syndicate shows. That's what made it possible for CBS to buy King World and become the distributor of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, but they're still not network programs.
@jamesbonnen8 жыл бұрын
The new rules have allowed the network to preempt programming, such as Fox atarting baseball pre game coverage at 6:30 CST.
@JohnH5118 жыл бұрын
Fox isn't covered by the same regulations as CBS, NBC and ABC. The definition of a network is that it distributes more than 15 hours a week of regularly scheduled national programming. Fox does exactly 15 - if they programmed the 10 PM Eastern Time hour, they would be considered a network and they couldn't put anything on at 7:30 except on Sundays.

This may have been the first game (now with the 'Any Number' wordmark on the top) of this kind played since the aforementioned Martha won the $6,000 car but the show could not dis-play (at least on TV) the incomplete prices of the sailboat or the piggy bank that would have otherwise been known. Google is trying!

When did they change from the original orange displays to the multi-color ones that they still use today? I seem to remember that the James version hung on to the orange displays while the Barker version moved to the multi-color ones when they moved to one hour? I was four years old when this aired, so my memory might be a little foggy.

I don't know what the production number for this episode is, but by #125N (which is on KZfaq), the James version switched to the multi-colored Contestants Row. Also, the switch on the Barker version occurred when the show moved from its afternoon timeslot to the morning timeslot (in August of 1975, two and a half months before the show expanded to a full hour).

I doubt there's a copy available but it would be priceless to see.

@WarioBarker7 жыл бұрын
Chris Baker I know I'm way late to this, but it wasn't a joke. Dennis wasn't aware that Fritz had disappeared shortly before the first nighttime taping with Cliff Hangers, and his naming of the mountain climber was probably a coincidence. ...On the other hand, it's possible that never happened at all. When the official TPIR KZfaq channel uploaded clips of the game's debut a few years ago, Janice could be seen walking behind the game board right as Bob says "Cliff Hangers" for the first time.

@meyerj756 жыл бұрын
TimBoud2012, That plus Bob Barker's request that no shows with fur coats as prizes to be aired on GSN. That might change now that Bob is no longer on the show anymore and that there is debate on whether or not the Dennis James hosted episodes should be relieved from the ban since it was Barker, not James, that imposed the fur coat ban.
