Nikon FM was my first 35mm film SLR, and still my favorite in my collection of 35mm film SLR's. Simple to use, quality robust construction, just a fine straightforward 35mm SLR camera. I've had mine since 1980 and all I've had done to it was new light seals installed it still operates like new.

My Nikon FM is a breeze to use, very sturdy construction, and you can find tons of nice lenses for it. One of the best 35mm cameras you can get without breaking your bank.

I have to give you credit for braving those cold temperatures in a tent. I have to admit I am a confirmed Hilton camper. My 35mm camera of choice is the Olympus OM1, after a professional CLA. For me the Zuiko lenses with Kodak Tmax 400 are the best. Another good video.

Congrats on the FM and that exceptional 24mm 2.8 Nikkor. If yu are used to shooting at 50mm, the 24mm may take a few rolls to adjust, but once you "see wide", it will be a natural. My advice to you, and this is in general, not particular to the FM. Find a repair shop which has a bit of Nikon experience (which is most of them) and have it subjected to a complete CLA, even if it is working perfectly. The rule is:"An ounce of prevention is worth ....: " I started with this series of cameras when the first FM was introduced around 1977. As new versions came out, so did I trade up, ending with an FE2, which I still have. I never had one fail on me, even though I used to work them pretty hard with a motor drive. I used to shoot a 1/3 of a roll at one time. (Steam engines at full speed. It's a thing.)

Thanks! I wish I got enough material to make an episode out of them, but for now I'll just sprinkle them around when I got nothing else to show haha.

When I traded off my Nikon F4s and most of the lenses for medium format back in the mid-90s I still wanted a 35mm SLR on hand. So in the trade, I got a well-brassed Nikon FM and a nifty-50. Later I actually used that camera as my primary while working for a small publisher. The FM is an excellent example of a working, fully mechanical camera. The LEDs for metering are icing. A few weeks ago I got a very minty Nikon FM from Japan for a nice price and found a clean 50mm f1.8 on the bay. Damn, it feels like coming home again. Love the FM. Side note: Look into getting an Aeropress Go for making coffee out there. If you really want to step it, get a small hand grinder and grind your beans in natural settings then make your coffee with the Aeropress Go (or just take ground). It can be a rather zen experience, the coffee is great, and... you already have the cup with you if you forget a mug.

i have used my FM in minus 45 celsius and no problem. All-mechanical cameras work no matter what. On mine, the light meter is dead but I don't need it anyways - I never use one.

My best guess is that the K1000’s advancing mechanism got too cold to actually latch and begin ratcheting properly, so the film would advance some frames and not others leading to a lot of exposures on the same frame. This has actually happened with the FM a few times since I got it but it actually won’t let you fire the shutter when this occurs. Still frustrating, but doesn’t allow you to waste an entire roll. And it also occurred at a much colder temperature than when the Pentax failed.

Do you have a video on replacing the light seals like you show at the start of this video? I have an FM2n that's in great shape except for the light seals being deteriorated. Thanks!

I don't have a specific video, but I got the light seal kit from USCAMERA and it had some super easy-to-follow instructions. I believe this should be the kit you need for your specific camera: uscamera.com/product/nikon-fe-fm-light-seals/ Hope this helps!

hey bro beautiful photos, buying an fm myself. with metering, are you exposure compensating by a stop at all with the + sign of the viewfinder metering
@dbexposure
@dbexposure 2 ай бұрын
I’ve discovered it’s fairly dependent on the film you’re using, most of the time I’m aiming for dead center in the highlights but sometimes I overexpose by one stop.
