It's always hard when you love a book, to embrace a televised version - because the satisfaction of reading the writer's uniquely crafted prose is lost, and there's so much which has to be cut and shut. But this series beautifully captures the spirit of the books - retaining the atmosphere, warmth, honesty and charm of the originals.
