The Nordic Bronze Age culture emerged about 1750 BC as a continuation of the Battle Axe culture (the Scandinavian Corded Ware variant) as well as from influence that came from Central Europe. This influence most likely came from people similar to those of the Unetice culture, since they brought customs that were derived from Unetice or from local interpretations of the Unetice culture located in North Western Germany. The metallurgical influences from Central Europe are especially noticeable. The Bronze Age in Scandinavia can be said to begin shortly after 2000 BC with the introduction and use of bronze tools, followed by a more systematic adoption of bronze metalworking technology from 1750 BC. The Nordic Bronze Age maintained close trade links with Mycenaean Greece, with whom it shares several striking similarities. Some cultural similarities between the Nordic Bronze Age, the Sintashta/Andronovo culture and peoples of the Rigveda have also been detected. Some scholars also include sites in what is now Estonia, Finland, northern Germany and Pomerania as part of its cultural sphere.

There is a lot of good to be said about the Bronze Age. One thing that always bothers me about historians is that they will talk about their fascination with periods like this, but they will also stop short of saying that any period from the past could in any way be better than the present, because apparently hard work and being a bit more uncomfortable from time to time automatically means that life is pure despair. So many are okay with forfeiting their lives, freedom, community, and culture for material comforts. Air conditioning and antibiotics are nice, but are they worth it if it means living alone in a quiet, claustrophobic apartment and spending the vast majority of your day in an office with strangers you don't particularly like, with no meaning or purpose? Until air conditioners and antibiotics can treat anxiety and depression, or provide spiritual fulfillment, they are overrated -- or, at the very least, not worth giving up control over every facet of your life in order to obtain.

I have thought about air conditioning causing anxiety and depression. I live in South Florida and there are people that do not leave the air beyond getting into their car then blasting the air again. Even on nice 60-70 degree days they don't open the windows and run the air 24/7, I found people hate to sweat. I also agree what's the use of living another 20-30 years if you just sit on the couch and watch tv, best thing I ever did in my life was re-connect with nature.

Historians usually stop short because there is no fucking way we could know what life was like back then. Material artifacts and writing can only bring you so close. Additionally, it is not the historian's job to make these claims anyway. Their job is to analyze and interpret the past in a scientific way, not making claims about quality of life in the past.

I think that the Bronze Age in general was just better than today over all. It was when civilization was at its peak, adventure and exploration was still prominent, civilization and nature was balanced perfectly and it was also when warriors were the highest in society (as it should be). If I could personally go back in time I’d go back to the proto Celtic Bronze Age Urnfield culture in the regions of Brittany France around the 1300s BC.

Would be interesting to know more about the interconnections between the varoius people of the bronze age in Western Europe and the Mediterranean. I have a hard time believing that the Nordic Bronze Age is comparable to the Mediterranian Bronze Age. We could go through many points, but architecture alone is evidence enough in my opinion, to show that they were vastly different cultures. Scandinavians built their houses and settlements in simple, yet effective, manageable and pragmatic ways, whereas Greeks, Egyptians and Middle Easterns built gigantic temples and vast metropolises. I agree though that Scandinavians back then were far from being these unwashed and primitive barbarians who walked around with axes all day, trying to steal shit. In fact, evidence suggests they were pretty sophisticated people, just in different ways than the more famous cultures of the time.
@gadpivs
@gadpivs Жыл бұрын
And going beyond that, why would we want our ancestors to have built the metropolises of Greece and Egypt? That would require a huge amount of manual labor, possibly even slave labor, and it would also guarantee that an entire caste of your society is unfree and miserable. Isn't that just one step away from a modern industrialized nation with all of its bureaucracy and class differences? And all to make stuff that looks pretty and glorifies a small handful of elites? By contrast, Germanic women were some of the freest on Earth during this time, most major decisions were made by vote, and leaders were temporary and only listened to for very specific tasks, or sought for guidance rather than social mandates and strict rules.

Hey Mr. Bronte age history dude, heres a question you've NEVER been asked before: Why on earth did human go from the stone age to the BRONZE age, before entering the iron age? The MOST abundant metals on earth are ALUMINIUM and IRON, THEY ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE, YET WE JUMPED STRAIGHT TO BRONZE. Why????? Bronze is arguably HARDER to make, as one needs to figure out how to mix TIN and COPPER, instead of just melting up some iron which is easier to find anyway.

As a professional metalsmith, I'm going wager its due to the melting points of the materials. Bronze melts at roughly 1,000 degrees (F) lower than iron making it much easier to work with and doesn't require as much precision in balancing fire and oxygen as it does to reach temperatures that will melt iron.
