The Morality of Samuel Johnson’s Rasselas. Dr Johnson was one of the most vigorous intellectuals of the eighteenth century. He was also exceptionally kind, humble and constantly battling against self-doubt. For anyone feeling fed up with life, Rasselas may be the answer.

Brilliant analysis of Johnson’s work. This book literally changed my outlook on life, and I wish I had read it 20 years earlier.

Herculean Indeed...remembers Forms of Fiction class! Enjoyed the listening to this most amazing lecture particularly the two types of the novel...I do prefer the natural form for ease of flow if there is a twist or two.

Sir Joshua's painting of Johnson in his thoughtful mood is captioned as c.1856. That is incorrect by nearly a century. I do enjoy the Gresham lectures. Many thanks.
