It has been years Necros when you did an HL2 beta NPC video, I am nearly in tears due to the wave of nostalgia.

Context of the brickbat: In the earlier development test there wasn't the gravity gun, so instead the was the brickbat, wich let you to trow objects like a rock, a cremator head and a living headcrab for some reason

I just realized that a lot of these are just reskins, for instance the fast headcrab, the real beta one has a entirely different model.

Funny thing is that I was literally just thinking about the Half-Life 2 Beta before you uploaded this, so I suppose I should check this mod out! Believe it or not, there were quite a few cool NPCs that mod did not include, specifically ones that were actually functional and working before being cut. I highly suggest looking up the wasteland scanner and hydra, which are probably the most interesting ones that got cut from the final game. The NPCs shown are even better in the HL2 beta and the mods for retail that recreate it, but this addon does a pretty good job too! Yes, the antlion guard was originally to have an exoskeleton so strong that bullets would do nothing to it, requiring you to kill it with other weapons. How dangerous antlion guards were was shown off in an E3 beta map where you see one slaughtering a squad of Combine soldiers before flipping over an APC and finally getting killed by a blast from the belly cannon of a gunship. Thank God that was changed! I don't even remember from playing the beta leak a few years ago if you can even kill it with explosives. The blood-covered beta headcrabs had a short animation that would play when they were in leaping distance before jumping at you. There is an even earlier reddish-orange headcrab that came before it, along with a different zombie model (called the "fat zombie" because it looked like it was bloated). The zombine was indeed cut from Half-Life 2 and was reused for the episodes.

The Vortigaunt slave does make an appearance only for one chapter in HL2 (from what I know) you see it working under the supervision of a CP behind a fence, right after you get off the train. You turn right, and that's where you will find the Vortigaunt slave, though the beta model vs release is quite different

12:51 actually both the houndeyes and bullsquids were cut from the game, which sucks a lot because the resonance cascade was like a world wide event thing because portals didn’t only appear in Black Mesa but also OUTSIDE of black mesa in towns and stuff, BUT the good news is Marc Laidlaw said in an interview that houndeyes are around somewhere, so they are canon in Half-Life 2, they just aren’t IN half-life 2.

Fun fact: You can see the cut vortagaunt model if you noclip at the start in Half-Life 2 Episode 1

Just played "The Thing" mod yesterday, it’s a half life 2 mod that came out before half life 2 did and it used the beta engine, thankfully the map where the antlion guard was in had tons of rpgs on the ground

Half Life 3 : should star with attempting to bring Alyx back using the vortigaunts ( that suit is full of tracking devices and Gordon stayed with that suit in the false vail of time ) However Alyx shows up confused and says i was in a very dark place there was a man and ... you died but then i ... i dont remember . You two where about to board the Borealis ( Elli says ) Alyx keeps being confused . But then Barney radios in saying he needs Gordon s help he got Mosaman but there s someone else . I think the beta zombine is fake. They already had the new headcrab textures so idk why they would replace them THEN move back to the other headcrab texture for the final release

So many games have a better beta then the actual game, the cut bullsquid and hound eye should have still been in the game tbh.
