As much as buff armies are unrealistic, I find that having 1 or 2 other operators that synergize really well with the showcased operator (such as showcasing Qiu Bai with Suzuran) actually helps demonstrate the strengths of certain operators. imo judging an operator's individual strength isn't as black or white as it seems since Arknights strategies generally tend to revolve around building teams and exploiting synergies as opposed to individual characters.

The numbers means the amount of days, weeks, months, and years we all have to wait for Santalla to finally become a playable operator. (It's been over 3 years!)

Siege's S1 produces a much higher number of DPs per second than SilverAsh or Exusiai or Nightingale or even Nearl Alter which gives her one of the highest DPs per second production in the entire game

It's actually pretty hard to make a not-oversaturated showcases of an operator (especially the niche ones), but its fun optimizing and bringing the operator to light with them doing their job

Nice video Yii! You pretty much summed up why I stopped maintaining my DPS spreadsheet. In the beginning I thought it was good for getting an idea of how much damage an operator does but I realized I could spend the same amount of time learning more about the operator and their application.

Only times I can see Average DPS being a thing is for operators with infinite skills like Blaze, Mountain and Thorns, maybe determining which of the 3 to use in a particular situation might be enough for justification, but ops typically offer more than just DPS.

I'm pretty sure content creators that use numbers and present graphs in their video like Dreamy and DragonGJY give heavy context about those numbers when presenting in their video. They also don't give unreasonable comparison like the one in 4:13. DPS in proper context is still very good. Arknights is mobile game after all, where most has stats. Arknights is not some anime where an operator can get strong after flashbacks and such or fps where a better gaming chair can make you win the match. It is not obvious because of the large gap but we know that Silverash S3 is stronger than Ayerscarpe S2 (there are more close comparison where DPS really helps) in dealing damage because of the numbers. Of course, there are other things like proper deployment, making sure the operator survive, fighting against enemies that they counter but that's where context comes in.

My professionally trained by an amateur opinion on Arknights balance/operator-usefullness talk is that there are a lot of very casual players who think they know the in-depth details and nuances of mechanics that are pretty complex and varied (they don't)

Yes you are, no need to be perfect, just do what you think is the closer you can get to perfection while enjoying making it, thats enough. Also, as a new player, imo your channel has a soul, kinda hard to find arknights channels with one.

i was not expecting a new video at 2:40am, but a welcome surprise nonetheless Also a valid point on showcases being too similar and repetitive. I'd like to see more IS2/IS3 showcases to show how well of a pick an operator is at the start of a run since I've become more interested in those modes rather than the main game. Sure, the relics can skew a showcase if you're trying to show off how well they can do, and they even go into runs capped at E1 without certain squads bringing them up to E2 for free, but at the end of the day I just want to know if I can have a wacky time with the operator.

While I agree with most of the points on showcases, there's 2 things I want to mention. Liskarm SP batterying is kind of a double edged sword. While it makes the showcase video feel less honest on how much downtime an op has, it's also a totally valid strategy that can get big results. As long as the showcase doesn't go poggy woggy with SP batterying (looking at Fiammetta s2 showcases), it's not really a misrepresentation of the unit to any major extent. "Not repeating the same stages over and over again" is completely valid, although it never bothered me that much. Some stages are just built like showcase stages and can be easily figured out with a new op. It can also give viewers a way to compare units by comparing how well the op clears compared to other ops who have done the same stage. Another thing, which is more of an excuse, is that finding a unique stage that actually plays to an ops strengths so they don't need excessive support, while also not being too easy, ends up being difficult with how many ops are in the game. It becomes further difficult when you consider how many newer ops fill similar roles, even if only vaguely, reducing the already limited choices.

I remember a comment from a Flametail showcase video of somebody just trashing on her because there are Saga and Bagpipes. Essentially he just said that Flametail dps and dodge mean nothing when compare to Saga and Bagpipes.

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with DPS comparison as it can give something comparable information between operators. I do agree though that a **raw** comparison without any of the operator nuances contextualized is disingenuous though. Arknights is a game full of nuances and synergies. What may not work for one operator on one map may work spectacularly with the same operator on another map due to skill timings, etc.. I think what DPS gives is one facet of information and we as players have to use that information as accurately as possible to pick the correct puzzle piece (operator) to solve the problem (kill the enemy). I definitely agree that the standalone analysis without context is very disingenuous and should be avoided. Thank you for the video and content :)

Finally someone mentioned this! A lot of showcase video on youtube is really bad. Many times they shows the op can solo/duo a certain stage on low level stage with max level and full equip mods. Or a mid level stage with buff army. Many of them is often miss the strong points of the operator on its niche stage but they straightly use it as a dps. Sigh

6:47 That's... a bit of an overgeneralization. While it's true that showcases with buff armies don't showcase an operator all that much, it's still worth noting that some operators benefit from buffs/debuffs more than others.

Feels like people are making "tool showcases", but they keep showing screws, so of course screwdrivers are always looking best and it's kinda awkward to use a hammer there. Would be better to demonstrate a hammer on nails. Or, perhaps, on a crooked nail that got hammered in wrong, to showcase what to do with that double bit at the back of some hammers, to pull that nail out easily. Gives a better idea what the tool's gonna be used for, right? That's not even beginning to talk about using Surt-Saws to just saw it all into pieces.
