Every morning I walk along my local beach, often picking up few pieces of rubbish, mostly plastic, knowing that it may eventually pollute and harm the ocean. At a macro level it is a relatively insignificant gesture. However, imagine if more of us, say the 3 billion dependents on the blue economy, were to account for their own waste? It's a small world and we each have our part to play

At the beginning of this year the IMO and its members (incl all global operating cargo carriers ) adopted a much anticipated new standard of low-sulphur fuel that will reduce the co2 emission and pollution drastically from those big ocean ships, the cost is $ 10-12 BN across the industry just in 2020. This will be passed to the customers on a TEU/Ton level initially, until market level adjusts. It also increased the share of the even 'cleaner' LNG powered ships, as it's ROI becomes more feasible.

My problem with these grand theories of global cooperation is always, why should small developing economies limit themselves by entering into agreements that dont benefit them in the short or medium term, why plan for the future if your people is poor, sick and starving now, why not buy more fishing boats, sell mining rights and oil drilling, rich, developed countries dont plan to shut down their economy, only "switch over" to a greener economy and never if its going to shrink their GDP

It's not just the seas and oceans that we need to care for, but the rivers as well. In my country, Egypt, for example, the Nile River is very polluted as a result of the government's lack of law enforcement. It's depressing to see piles of trash in the Nile because this is our only source of life and it's a vital part of our economy.

The Earth was not made to accommodate humans, the Earth came first and we humans were merely an afterthought. We can't view the Earth's resources as infinite anymore, we need to be more sustainable and that does include the oceans.

world leaders need to be taking notes from this video...and this whole channel, honestly That being said, do you think sustainable aquaculture would be a good solution for overfishing? Maybe that could be a sector that boosts the economies of poorer coastal nations as well. The ocean is really the most important and most overlooked environmental dilemma that we face as a species

Regulations ultimately hurt the economy if not destroy it in long run. The only solution to this trend is localized sustainable development and reliance on trade for very limited goods.

Humanity will run out of clean, potable water far sooner than we will run out of oil. It is to our detriment as a species and a civilisation if better management of our surroundings (or environment, another word meaning the same thing) is not prioritised.
