This, and “Time of Your Life” are the two best bittersweet pop punk songs about growing up. “Kids” is a reflective anthem about adult life hitting you hard after the simple happiness of youth, and “Time” is more about looking ahead and embracing change. This song is a textbook example of good songwritting. Every 4 measures the storytelling from the lyrics goes deeper and deeper, avoids sounding redundant and keeps adding tension for the chorus to be expected and it hits just on time so the message from it hits harder each time and the melodic elements like the bass line, the guitar solos and riffs are simple and effective, very well implemented.

RIP to my friend and teammate James Green. He had everything going for him. I'll never forget attending a Milwaukee Brewers tryout camp and they kept him until the very end. A true talent.
