I had the tikka t1x 17hmr - brilliant rifle - .75 moa at 100m even with a muppet like me behind it. When I wanted a .22 Ir I obviously considered the tikka again but CZ had just brought out the 457. I saw it and was smitten so the 20” varmint version is on my cabinet. It was like a precision rifle right out of the box and, on top of that, it’s a thing of real beauty. The sort of rifle you pick up and run through your hands just to feel the quality. Ever since it has been my bunny basher taking them out, like clockwork, out to 104m. Forget the expense, it’s a rifle you’ll never regret pulling out of the cabinet for any reason, even cleaning it.

My favorite 22 is an Anschutz 1416 which is more accurate that I am standing, and is lots of fun off the bench. I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 2-6 on it, works great 22's are great practice and lots cheaper to shoot than centerfires

Agree with you 100% on wooden stocks. There’s just something about the classic look of a timber gun stock. Although I do Also love the combination of nice timber and a stainless barrel. Awesome collection you have there!

I got a Marlin Model 6060, 1978 special derivative of the Model 60....Centennial Special, badged OK 1878-1978, 100 year company anniversary, walnut stock with squirrel embossed grip and oak leaf forearm. Love it! Found it recently at a pawn shop with a crappy 4x Tasco scope for $175, so they are still out there!

The CZ is actually derived from a Mauser design from the 30's and is nothing but a micro-Mauser action, complete with ruptured case vent hole. I own three of these, an old Model 1 and two ZKM452 in .22LR and .22WMR, they are excellent shooters and a beauty to behold. Another excellent rifle that you can find at an affordable price and that is worth owning is the Serbian made Zastava MP22 also known as the CZ99. Just like you I love to get my hands on blued steel and wood rifles that I can restore to almost like new condition. IMO the feeling of walking the woods holding a nice, traditional .22 is hard to replicate. I hope your collection will keep on growing for years of enjoyment.

One of the nicest 22,s I've ever owned was a little Marlin 25N SS . That gun shot like nothing I had ever seen .Cant even remember how many trips to the squirrel woods I had with that gun and 7 shells in my pocket more often than not coming home with no shells and 7 squirrels. For some reason I sold it but while kicking myself in the ass came across a brand spanking new 541 T which I still have. The accuracy of the 541 quickly made me forget about the 25N but I still have fond memories of that little tack driver.

I'm with you 100% !!! wood stocks and blued barrels !!! Nothing nicer !!! I also agree 100% on the cz !! I have the American with walnut stock and I also got it in a 3 barrel kit because in case you didn't realize you can swap out the barrel to 22 magnum or 17 hmr so you essentially get 3 guns in one witch was the first preference for me in buying it !!! then found out how well it really shoots !!! Anouther tip is if you don't like the plastic magazine you can get the 452 magazine and use it as it's metal! !! But like you pointed out no real point !!! 22 for me is the best bang for you $$$

I have to admit...I have several 22's with rubber type stocks but I also have wood stocks. I like them all. I love to shoot them and change them around a bit. 22lr is a very under-rated caliber but in a pinch it's one of the best you can own. You can have 1000's of rounds of ammo and they will all fit in a small area compared to the larger calibers. They are also reliable to distances much farther than 100 yards. 22's are just good all-around guns for lots of applications and lots of fun. Thanks for the video!

Excellent collection sir. I too love walnut stocks. I value Marlins and Rugers. My Ruger 1022 is a birch laminate with a grey/black finish and an International/Manlicher stock. My Marlin is a circa late 1980's 39A with walnut stock and is a tack driver. The .22 is so fun to shoot and will not break the bank.

There are lots of advantages to owning a .22lr. My favorite rifle is a CZ 457 Scout rifle. it is a tiny gun at only about 32 inches overall length, but then I am only 5'5" tall and so it fits me perfectly. It is a quality bolt action .22lr that can accept a 5 or 10rd. magazine, which makes it more suitable for a mature shooter than a Cricket or Rascal. Ammunition is not expensive, recoil is not violent enough to damage the scope, and the gun is welcome at more gun ranges (at least in my neck of the woods) than guns of larger or more powerful calibers.

I have a 1977 glenfield model 60 from Marlin and love it to death over any of my new model rifles. I like the look of that Mossberg bro I also have a 10/22 but always find myself grabbing the 60, it is more of a traditional style which I am all about myself over the "tacticool" looks, but most of my guns were given to me by my pawpaw who had went to be with the Lord earlier this year... I have a Taurus PT 1911 in 45acp that I carry daily, my model 60 he gave me for plinking and small game, a Stevens "sweet 16" 16 gauge double barrel break over that my friends call the dove slayer, and my trusted Winchester model 94 in 30-30, with the Bushnell scope pawpaw dialed in when we used to deer hunt he's got quite a few bucks with it and I have brought down 2 this last season with my Remington 30-06 is my other big game killer but that old 94 paw paw taught me how to get proficient with it by shooting rocks with tye wadcutters he always had and turned them to dust at 100+ yards unfortunately he's no longer with me...he was my best hunting buddy since i was 13 and I'm 32 now... it won't ever be the same hunting deer without pawpaw but I know he would kick my ass if i don't go get another buck with the 94 he left me his Ruger Blackhawk .357 as my new backup that I'll never forget he always had on his side when we'd hit the fields when I was a kid...my first hog hunt I quickly figured out why he had a close range backup lol, when a boar came roaring out of some nearby brush and treed me my buddies all had 357's and 44's on their hips along with the rifles I had my 30-06 and that was it, my best friend came out of nowhere and shot that hog 3 times with his 44 to the head before he finally dropped that beast it was fun and I'll always remember my paw paw when hunting and teaching my son how to hunt like paw paw taught me...sorry I got off subject the 22 is what he started me on, taught me to shoot and took me squirrel hunting and taught me anything i point a firearm at and shoot I can't ever take that bullet back, and we ate squirrel for dinner that night also learning you eat what you kill...he was a Korean war veteran and the wisest man I've ever known... I hooe anyone who has taken the time to read all this has had someone that influenced their love of firearms and hunting...hope y'all all stay safe and shoot straight in your hunting and target shooting

I’d like to ask a question of nobody in particular. I used to have a .22 Hornet many years ago and thought it was one of the sweetest shooting .22 variants ever. I never see any mention of the Hornet in any of the many, many gun videos I watch. What happened to that sweet, hot variant of the .22 ? Did it fall out of favor for some reason ? I enjoyed this video. I, too, love shooting .22’s and have owned many over the years. I’m 75 now and the old eyes focus different than they used to so I don’t shoot much any more. However I recently bought a new Rossi RS-22 because I am of short stature and have short arms so the carbine size suited me well. I also like the sights. The fiber optic rods of two colors are easier for these old eyes to utilize and focus on. 4 lbs ain’t so bad either. I appreciate any comments anyone cares to make about the .22 Hornet.

My father recently passed away. I inherited his Mossberg 151m SemiAuto 22lr (Mannlicher stock). Dated somewhere late in the 40’s. This was the first rifle I learned on at about 10 years of age. That baby can drive a tack at 50 yards. Had it stripped down and gave it a through clean and lube just the other day. Picked me up 1100 rounds and can’t wait to send some lead down range.

*IF YOU STILL ENJOY RE-FINISHING your wood. CONSIDER LINSEED OIL base coats & PINE TAR top coats. Pine Tar Top coat can be blended with Linseed oil and Bee's Wax for ease of application... "HUBERD'S SHOE GREASE" is a Pine Tar and Bee's Wax blend that makes an excellent wood penetrating, wood preservative, 'top coat'. ADDING HEAT OR FIRE when applying.. might darken the wood.*

I agree. 22s are the best value out there. The old school ones are of the same grade quality as the old big bore Guns but at a fraction of the cost. They are made of the high quality forged and milled parts and are hand fitted at the factory by the same craftsmen on the production line as they did the bigger bore firearms. I shouldn't be putting this into print even cuz I don't want the secret to get out as it might drive the market value prices up... and I'm still collecting. Thanks for the great video. The lighting in your bedroom is fine. It still shows the colors and bluing quality of each gun. well done and bravo for appreciating the secret of old school .22s

I have a 581s Remington. I added a 1 1/2 in spacer on the butt, I have fairly long arms. Free floaded the barrel and glassed in the action. At 50 yards 5 shots all holes touching, about the size of your thumb nail. At a 100 yards smaller than 1 inch. The last thing that I have done was to put in a trigger travel stop. You don't even feel the trigger move. After ammo tests my rifle seems to like Armscore., next up would have to be the Federal Auto Match, and the Aguila, Rifle Match. With a .22, my main reason is simply to feed myself if the SHTF. In the self defense role and a 24 inch barrel at close range it will do in a pinch.

Great video. I still have my marlin/glenfield model 20 that my dad bought for me when I was about 12. I put thousands of rounds through that gun over the years. I am 49 years old now and that gun has never failed me. I just took the model 20 out of the safe the other day to just run a couple of patches down the bore. This gun is in mint shape. Not quite sure how I kept it in such great condition, especially when I was a young kid with a pocket full of rounds tramping through the woods. Anyway I love Marlins and just recently added the model 60 to my collection. Thanks again for the great video.

Nice collection of 22lrs. I LOVE my 22 rifles for the same reason, CHEAP TO SHOOT AND CAN BE EXCEPTIONALLY ACCURATE FOR WHAT YOU PAY. They usually put most centerfire rifles to shame at a faction of the cost to get and to shoot.😯😁👍. I had a BEAUTIFUL MOSSBERG 144B-B that was in exceptional condition, looked like it had been in someone's safe since it was made in 1948-49.😁👍. It had a top of the line Mossberg rear peep sight and a DELUXE HOODED FRONT SIGHT. The front and rear sights was LIGHT YEARS NICER than what one usually find on the military trainers that are floating around. 😯😁👍

I was given this rifle when I was 13 that would be 1983. And there is no damage to the stock or any part of the rifle I wish I could post pictures of it but I don't think the pictures would do it any justice either it is truly a beautiful rifle

Lately I see young people trading in older gems like these for crappy black plastic guns.I watched a kid trade in his grandfathers entire collection for an ar10 last year. Great vid and I think you have a good eye for quality guns. Keep an eye out for old Winchester mod 74 rifles. Love my 457 as well.

I'm with you Bud. Wood Stock and Blued Barrels I'm not into those "PLASTIC" guns. You have a nice collection there. Anyone who thinks a .22 is a kid's gun, or a wimpy gun is nuts. There are incredibly fun to shoot just like you said. And I love the "Crack" sound they make when you shoot them. Especially when you get echo too. And I would not be afraid to grab my .22 if someone broke in on me. Do you know what a .22 bullet does when it goes in you. It bounces around and travels. Tearing flesh as it goes. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that. Great video in defense of the great.22 rifles.

I am a rookie shooter and like my Savage MK2 GPX. (Wood stock) I have moved my targets from 21 feet to 66 feet over the past year with pretty good groupings and some great coaching. I would like to get a CZ .22 as my final rifle so I'm saving up my pennies and saving my dimes. I too, like wood stocks the best. Roll Tide!

Can't argue against the merits of the .22lr, low cost, and lots of fun. I've always been a fan of wood stocks and blued barrels. I have a Remington model 580 that shoots super accurately but is a single shot bolt action. I did just purchase a Ruger 10/22 with a stainless steel 22" BARREL and nicely checkered Beech stock. Very nice proportions and well balanced for a 6' shooter. Since I had a Leupold 3-9 x 40 scope collecting dust in the closet it got mounted on the 10/22 today, can't wait to go shoot it again.

I have a Mossberg 802, I like it. Synthetic is lighter than wood and as durable, less eye candy but practical.

Wooden stock guns expand and change shape based on humidity. Plus they are slippery and don't have grips. For these 2 reasons I prefer synthetic stocks.

No worries about the location of this video,..it works. The lighting is pretty good actually,...the subject is what's important. You've done a good job here. I too, like the Marlin rifles,...in my opinion too, they are every bit as good as folks claim their Ruger 10/22's are. I have now subscribed to your videos, so we will see what you have. Good luck and Cheers!

Nice collection you have there. You are a Marlin guy! Marlin made some very affordable firearms. Never owned any myself but from what you have there, looks like about the same quality as Remington. I have a Mossberg .410 bolt action shotgun which appears to be about the same vintage as your Mossberg rifle. Same plastic trigger guard and grip insert. A good shooter and not all that common. That CZ must have set you back a little more than your other rifles.

Right with you about 'wood and metal' firearms..each to his (or her) own but I prefer good old wood-stocked firearms over the plastic/nylon 'tacti' guns. Best .22 rimfire rifle I've ever shot is the Marlin Mark IIG bolt action .22 rifle..which I purchased for my daughter as her first firearm. That thing is an absolute tack driver. I have a Ruger 10/22 carbine which is an excellent rifle, a Winchester Model 250 lever action .22 rifle, and an oddball: a Remington Model 510 SB (smoothbore) rifle which I purchased some years ago for the specific purpose of small critter pest control around the farm. Can't beat .22 rimfire for fun, cheap shooting. One of the most beautiful .22 rimfire rifles I've ever seen though is the original Browning autoloading .22 rimfire rifles. They were works of art.

Hey, I like your "brace" of .22's. I notice that most of them have monte carlo stocks, which are excellent for scope mounting. I agree about the accuracy of the Marlins (micro groove barrels). You obviously like bolt action guns. Still though, a very nice display. My meager .22 collection consists of; Ruger 10/22, Ithaca 49, Marlin Model 20 and Papoose, Rossi matched pair and 62 SAC (carbine), Charter Arms AR-7, Norinco ATD.22, Taurus 72 (.22 magnum) and a Ruger KNR-5 revolver. You are quite correct in that they are relatively cheap to shoot and don't set you back a bundle. Love them there .22's. I grew up on 1950's/60's westerns and cop shows. Never much liked the "black rifle" thing. Wood and blue steel, way to go.

Interesting video, but do yourself two favours. First, head into your local gunshop and get an aftermarket extended butt pad for that Mossberg 144. Take the time to find one that has the right depth, or thickness if you prefer, and you'll find it makes a huge difference to the length of pull and thereby greatly improve handling. Second, get your hands on a Ruger 1022 and give it a serious test fire. There are plenty of stock styles, both from Ruger and after-market, available to choose from and you can't beat the reliability of the action itself or of that slick 10-round rotary magazine!

If you want quality without breaking the bank, you should check out the Savage Mark II. It's a bolt-action .22LR with a walnut stock and it is DEFINITELY a quality gun for a great price.

Rimfire is only fun to me if they are tac drivers. That's why I picked 17hmr over 22lr. But I'm looking for a bolt action 22lr, semi autos usually are not the most accurate and get dirty quick.

I was about to say you need to add a CZ 452 or 455 to your collection... But I wanted to wait till the tend to see if it was your favorite. Sure enough! I just picked up a CZ 455 fs in 22wmr. Trying to decide if I want to put a scope on it or not.

*LITHGOW is the next step up from CZ ... LITHGOW is 'Same Style' or 'Same Pattern' as CZ, with slightly better fitment of parts. THE ACCURACY POTENTIAL with LITHGOW 'is a bit better', IF YOU USE DECENT AMMO, and do your part.*
