It’s interesting to review bag changes like this. You can almost tell where the fail points were in the early versions and how they adapted overtime to shore up the weaknesses. Good stuff… thanks JT!

I wish they kept the original bottom, it's better for weight management and the bag looks better when on with the slant. But a lot of office cry babies complained it doesn't stand up and Goruck made it flatter so it can stand up, because that seems to be so important for a bag(not), that is above everything the biggest change I DON"T like. Another difference with the og's is the back panel, the amount of squares, four pairs like a 26 even though it's smaller. Later the 21 and 26 have different counts.

You might want to check out Mixed Works and their Falcon backpack. They custom make these beautiful roll-top backpacks in Poland with 1000D Cordura and they also offer a Multicam Black version in X51 X-Pac. Might be up your alley!

The batwing started to fray on my og and they said it was unrepairable and offered me a new one. I wanted to keep my og and they gave me the new one at a severe discount. Since then I have bought five more packs, the company won me over and their pack is the most iconic pack in the business. It sets the standard for every other bag company, it's like a Rolex Submariner or Glock 19, still the same perfect original design with micro evolutions. I have used my og GR1 since the very beginning like 2009/2010 and took it all over the world and deployed w it, I have a huge sentimental attachment to it, it's like a prized heirloom now. I remember when the company came out w the bag, it was $300 and everyone lost their mind, no "backpack" ever cost that much, I bought it immediately and never looked back. Besides the batwing fraying the pack is still intact, every thing works and I still use it. I have many other packs, Nomin, CPL24, Mystery Ranch, Brown Buffalo etc....still Goruck is the bag who's aesthetic just does. My kids used their Gorucks through highschool then college, they're indestructible. Goruck for ever.

I recently got an OG Gr1 & GR0, i prefer them both over the newer versions, the straps are much better IMO.

My bags are newer but I still like that outside QA pocket everyone seems to hate. Bit of a pain to use but I can’t imagine anything ever falling out or anyone else in a crowd being able to get in there. Never a big deal to feel for a phone, keys, or with the pocket almost closed have a mask, etc. partially hanging out for a quick grab.

My 2011 gr1 was my only pack until 2015 when the bottom strap attachment started to come undone. I sent it to scars and they told me it was unrepairable and sent me a new gr1. At the time I had no idea about the differences between bags and would've loved to still have that bag

I just found that molle system is not universal, tried to attach goruck field pouch to my tad litespeed and is not compatible (the space between the molle strap is wider for goruck), idk which one standardized, but it seems that every brands have their own measurement to avoid interchangeable accessories?

I have that exactly same GR1. Bought in 2012 (Item 5689) price 295 $. My first Goruck bag. I was a start of and addicting 🙄

I remember first finding about GoRuck in a you tube video and going to their site to see only 1 bag, now you go to their site and they have like a million bags 🤯 Imho the newer bags look much better

I feel like the new ones are better in every ways, I mean it should be better since its updated.

As a military guy who got paid to do many ruck marches, I can't help but hate this bag. I get their marketing strategy and I respect their quality, but when I see molle and velcro...as a military person traveling the world doing shit, I prefer looking inconspicuous. I like the Goruck collabs that minimize the military look and offer more interesting materials. But the idea that civilians pay money to go ruck march epitomizes the lack of understanding of what war actually means.
