The Old Guard is based on the graphic novel of the same name, which tells the story of reeeeally old superhero soldiers.
And Charlize Theron plays Andromache Of Scythia, and she’s an immortal warrior who’s been living for 6000 years!
But as crazy as it is, the comic books author Leandro Fernandez didn’t see Theron as Andy!
Can you believe THAT?
When it comes to casting a badass female character, you can’t find a better choice than Theron.
Cause she’s strong. She's tough abd she’s able to do ALL her fighting tricks by herself!
Without ANY stunt doubles!
It begs the question... HOW BADASS IS CHARLIZE THERON?
The cast had to do LOTS of prep for the movie - and as long as Netflix was in charge they invited the fight team that worked on the John Wick films!

I'm betting that Theron realized a while ago that, given the way that older actresses are phased out of some roles because of age, she needed to create a new avenue to ensure her acting future without being typecast as the mother/grandmother/matron that so many have been forced into. I'm glad she did, if that's the case.

Brilliant woman because in Hollywood it’s as if once someone hits a certain age they get pigeon holed into specific roles. Charlize is too powerful of an actor in her presence and passion to be stuck playing one kind of role.

I loved this movie and hope they make a second one!! The fight scenes were amazing and the actors did a great job with the immortality and showing the audience their struggles, especially the long years and how it has affected them. It was great ❤

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say I've watched this movie, start to finish, 10 times already. I love everything about it & did not know I needed something like it too I was it. I didn't catch the significance of Don Quixote, though, but that's because I know basically nothing about the book or any movies based on it. I think now that I'll have to change that. Love the added depth that this video gives the movie!

Just watched the movie last night. And yes! The fight scenes gave me a little 'John Wick' vibe; in the building, on the plane, and the church in Paris. Also, just downloaded the soundtrack!

Most Netflix movies are amazing and well crafted. The old guard is definitely one of them. The fight scenes are well executed makes u proud to be an independent woman. Part 2 soon please! Hands down to my fav Charlize Theron❤

I love action a lot and this film was such a great representation of an action-packed film!! Great premise, great action scenes, pretty simple plot that still leaves room for further development. Really hoping for a sequel ☺️

@Age Of The Witch no, she's her own version. She's Charlize Theron, the best and most versatile actress of her generation. She's also an excellent producer. She was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe three times and in the film "Monster", where her acting was the best female performance in the cinema of all time, she won both awards. Could you give the actress the credit she deserves and stops putting male hero labels on her?

None of the women you just named are considered "action heroes". They are actors who took an action oriented role. There's is no black female equivalent of Sylvester Stallone OR Jean Claude Van Damme, who are considered "action heroes".

@@limecayman LMAO if you think Zoe and Berry are just "actors with action oriented roles" you didn't see the movies. Gamora is basically the whole start of the GoTG movie and her role is super important in the "Thanos arc" and she is super badass. Halley Berry as Storm is one of the main characters in all the Xmen Movies, she is not only important but also so powerful.

Finally stumbled upon this Netflix movie.. i love Theron as a strong female role, ever since I seen her in Eon Flux, X Men, and many more. Love the storyline 100% and really could see at least 2 more movies if Netflix really wants to give us worthy Netflix Movies. Theron is so amazing at what she's done throughout all her action films. Im so surprised she hasn't made it to a Marvel movie.

You misunderstand the point. They never said black female actors in action roles, they said Black Female Action Heroes. All you've done is name characters, not people. Zazie Beetz, Tessa Thompson, Alexandra Shipp and Naomie Harris aren't considered action stars like Sylvester Stallone or Scott Adkins. They are simply actors. There are no black female action stars at the moment.

I believe they pronounce it as an-draw-muh-key (andromache), not un-draw-muh-shey...also, Storm has been black her entire superhero life...good job on the rest of the video though...

I got so hyped for this movie, but. I loved the fight scenes and the setting, but the story itself felt weak. Why did they become immortal? Why do they decide to pick fights through millennia? No explanation whatsoever. And the bad guy felt too "flat" to me, still too comic book-ish. I know it's from a graphic novel, but I would have liked a little more realism in the adaptation. I loved the cast for the immortals, Charlize is stunning and the young girl is a very good and believable actress - can't wait to see more of her. I loved the other actors as well. The soundtrack felt unnecessary and annoying 99% of the time. I would recommend it as a damn good action movie, but I think it had the potential to be more.

Nitpick. At 1:59 narrator indicates Danny Hernandez talking about Charlize's stunt work, but the display says Leandro Fernandez, who was the graphic artist of the novel. Oops, or dyslexia?

It was slow at times but the action was great. It was too sappy in parts and the villains motives were idiotic. But for some reason, I want to see a part 2! What’s going to happen next? Especially with the lady who was drowning for 500 years. LOL

Storm, Misty Knight, Thunder and her sister Lightning. There 4 superheroines all of African descent no sweat and I'm pretty certain that I'm not the only comic books fan that can name them and more. So is not that superheroines of African descent dont exist in the comics not only they do but many are very popular among comic books fans that Hollyweird prefers to ignore such well developed and loved characters and tokenize established fictional characters and even historical figures instead of actual historical figures of African descent like Frederick Douglas. That's really what's happening just FYI

I think that's what they mean. It isn't that the material isn't there (or that there aren't people out there willing not only to adapt comics but make NEW content) but that it isn't out in the world. Most people wouldn't be able to do more than name Storm. It isn't mainstream. As much as I love Black Lightning, a lot of people don't know the show or the comic. I really hope that with this shows popularity, with the popularity of Black Panther, and how EXCITED people were for Misty and Colleen (rip that potential), Hollywood gets it together. I know Marvel has a few things planned, but we shall see.

This is the third review I've seen where the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce Andromache. Editors don't know enough about language to fix these kinds of mistakes.
