The Caisson Platoon of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) attended the 2013 Washington International Horse Show and demonstrated the professionalism and expertise our riders execute on a daily basis. This video presentation gives background information on the Caisson Platoon and describes what a day is like in the life of a Caisson Soldier. (Video by SSG Chris Ballentine)

I was a member of the Caisson Platoon from late 1972 through mid 1975. I had many friends, some of them with four legs. The horses and riders were amazing. I was privileged to ride beside our platoon leader, CW4 John C. McKinney on Summeral Field for his retirement in 1974. It is for Mr Mac that the Caisson stables are named. Rest in peace Mr. Mac.

Indiana Ceremonial Unit still has an active Cassion Platoon as well, I was a member of the CU from 02-04 when I deployed.

Just curious, do the horses ever get turned out? I've been working with various barns for quite a while and I've never encountered one where the horses only stay in their stalls when not working.
