Whitehack fuckin rules. Only thing that's a bit difficult to get your head around is the Auctions mechanic, but it's such a flexible game.

Scarlet Heroes does something similar with it's "traits" system. When you create a character, you select a number of traits that are just loosely defined abilities associated with your character concept.

neat review, man. I suggest you go even more into the mechanisms, because many RPGs claim "you can do anything!". A direct comparison between WH 2E and 3E would be more than welcome! You pointed out some problems many RPGs are plagued by and I torally agree.

Have you thought about buying the PDF and then printing it? Then it will be up to you if you want to bind it or just hole punch and place it in a binder. It might help solve any shipping issues.

Fantastic video, Dandy! And I can't believe this is your first! :O You've already mastered the concept of unique presentation. Your channel gives off a very homey, yet slightly ætheric, vibe and I already love it. Here's to the success of your channel! I'm sure you'll do fantastic things if this is your start! :D

Cool review. Whitehack is my favorite role playing games system. I learned about thanks to Ben's channel quite a few years ago. I just realized the 3rd edition just came out but I didn't know about it. I already have this edition ordered.

Great review, thanks! I'm definitely going to run it. My group has adults (35-45 yo) as well as younger players (9-15). By emphasizing the concept, everyone can run something they understand. Still trying to get my head around attunements, however your explanations really helped...keep up the great work!

Thank you! I've got two setting videos in the works; one on Dark Sun and one on Veins of the Earth. I'll be sure to talk about my campaign ideas for both settings. I think Whitehack works especially well for Veins of the Earth. Veins is a setting like no other, and the dreamlike quality I want to evoke would be bolstered by Whitehack's free-form approach to character creation/class interpretation. There are a few systems I could see myself running Dark Sun in: Whitehack, AD&D, and DCC/MCC (I hear there's a Psionics guide for DCC out there). I'll go over my own design/interpretations in future videos!

This is kind of how I treat every game already, because I'm the DM and I want to have fun too. Making it suit my vision of a good game and world is central to keeping me invested. This makes me want to grab the book at some point.

Having just recently started looking into the history of D&D and seeing how its oldest editions had a somewhat simpler way of doing things (I'm beginning to see the appeal of this whole d20/d6 thing, let me tell you), this was just what I needed to see. I love the sound of it as you've described it, but if I may say, I think the presentation may have been vastly improved by the addition of some visual aids over to your right where there's space. I had a tough time keeping it in-head how such a thing might be organized, and I think some additional clarification on that with the use of a few choice graphics would've helped tremendously. That's not to say it's not a good video, though! Just that it could go from around a 7 or 8 to a 9 or 10 with such additions. It would only help to sell the viewer on the system even more, I think!

This video convinced me whitehack is the system for my next campaign. I’ve felt kind of hemmed in by dnd for a bit and this sounds like a fast flexible old school rpg to fill the gap. I’d love to see short love play videos from a game. Also, have you considered starting a discord server/ slack workspace for your channels community?

Thank you! Introducing people to new stuff has always been my goal. I do plan a discord server for this channel, but I think I'll want to put out some more content before I get there. I would love to get to a point where I could show videos from one of my games, but with my current equipment setup I'm not sure if that's possible yet.

Has anyone used this for non fantasy settings? I love the Black Hack and I love the Cypher system for generic systems but this seems to be the best of both worlds.

Also only really DND has a million over priced books most games have what DND has in 2-4 books in one and other offer All-in-one books that have everthing and more of the stuff they made for it.

I'll have to check it out as I'm making a Universal TT Wargame/RPG and it solunds interesting but it apears extremly light on conetnt and not all that flexable... Like why classes at all? Also the reason why you can play a Dragon in DND is how simple their stats are and the don't level up so for a one shot it would be fun but for a campaign it wouldn't be. Which the differnce between a plable race and a monster in DND is purely the simplcity of the stats and do they level and or need GM intervention to play currectly? Which sounds like all things in white hack are characters and that means that PC and NPCs are the same thing and for a game that can be bad it just depends on what your going for... Like multiplayer that's fine but singleplayer/ co-op? It would make the game extremly lethal and or a slog to play... Which the game does have good ideas it's just somethings just sound bad.... I'll have to read the book.

“You can’t cast a miracle that would kill you” Why not? If it brings exactly to 0 health… why not? Why not let this player martyr themselves to the party’s benefit? Maybe it saves the party from what would’ve been a TPK, but this person has to roll up a new character

This sounds like a game with no rules that will in practice totally be about metagaming and weedling the GM into giving you what you want.

My problem with Whitehack is the use of d20 and the fact that it uses levels. I am more a d6 or d100 type of guy and I like a more modern RPG approach. It is essentially a D&D made generic.
