I’m so glad even at this age, Jonathan looks like a very healthy tortoise. I’m glad he’s in good capable hands and lives in a safe environment. He apparently loves affection too judging by how that man was petting his neck.

Napoleon died on St Helena while in exile there in 1821.Reportedly from stomach cancer but possibly murdered by poisoning.

Its crazy how this tortoise can possibly outlive the youngest generation right now if they can survive for up to 300 years.

This beautiful creature hatched only 11 years after Napoleon died on the same island. Napoleon was exiled here after his final defeat. This was his second exile. The first was to Elba. He finally succumbed on May 05th, 1821.

I immediately thought of the events he’s lived through all those 190 years. WW2 was one of the things I thought of, and looks like one of the pics was a group of British officers petting him. Important part of history that he lived as well as WW1. He lived through both world wars and every other important event in the 20th century. He’s a living piece of history itself. Impressive!
