They have had penny presses around forever - I collected them from all my vacations - but in the old days - you had to put in the dollar and provide your own penny! At least this one provides the penny! LOL I was at Potter's when I was in junior high years ago (literally - I'm 70!) - then it was rated as the largest wax museum in the world and I still have their souvenir book which was about an inch thick! Each page had a picture of the figure and their story! Thought it was so cool!

I’m actually a relative to Will Rogers the cowboy. I did a family tree project for school. As far as I could tell Roy Rogers isn’t directly related to Will. Maybe a distant relative because they do share the same spelling of their last names. The original spelling was Rodgers but at some point there was a split and the Rogers started to spread throughout the world.

Tip: Not sure what camera you're using, but if you can get a polarizing filter for it, since you do film a lot of glass stuff, it cuts down on reflections in glass and water. It's great for museums and places like this.

I just thought of some spots to check out for you - but now that I think of it you can't take photos or videos inside the museum but there are some wooden carved characters, and you can take them outside of the 'cabin' and porch and several other connections to the author of Song of The South, Joel Chandler Harris. His Hometown and museum is in Eatonton, GA and the lady that was working inside the gift shop told us his story and about what was in the museum and she also told us about the acknowledgement in the park, where his Mom had worked, which has a marker I think, and definitely where he and his Mom lived behind another house. You could then cut across hwy 16 - thru Monticello and several other little towns used in movies - My Cousin Vinnie was in the town square and then Sac O Suds from the movie is still there down the road = but you can also take I 20 over to Atlanta and visit the last home of Harris and the graves of he and his wife - the Wren's Nest I think the home was called has some tours but the days and hours are not clear and may not be currently available but you can part there and see the house and grounds. = So you can do a good covering of Song of the South - or research and do some movie locations = but check the hours on Uncle Remus' cabin = We didn't get a chance to eat there but Eat A Ton Cafe in Eatonton sounded interesting. We also saw the Barbie Beach on that trip but not sure if it is still active.

Oddly enough, it’s really hard to find credible info on the color of Hitler’s eyes. I was really shocked that they’d get that wrong in a wax figure, but there are lots of pictures online with blue eyes. So it’s either a common myth or he did have blue eyes. How did you come to find out he had brown eyes? Now I’m really curious! TIA!
@madawcofarreat2348
@madawcofarreat2348 6 ай бұрын
He didn't have brown eyes. It's just purposefully incorrect historical facts for obvious reasons, just like him only having one testicle and so on. Not defending him or anything related to him, but it's a major pet peeve of mine whenever any historical figure, good or bad, has various things repeated as fact out of spite.

It's a little weird that I haven't been to St. Augustine, as I am a certified history freak, and St. Augustine has alot of history. One of my teachers in grade school was descended from Daniel Boone, which I thought was incredibly cool. And Davey Crockett said one of my all time favorite quotes while addressing Congress: "You all may go to hell. I will go to Texas." I realize that I'm a bit late for the comments, but it's Saturday, and I slept in.

I have a problem keeping Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett apart too - I do know the song so that does help - but another reason besides their appearance similarities - Fess Parker played them both on TV as I was growing up so that too could be your issue too. There were Davey Crockett movies from Disney and Fess played with Buddy Ebsen of Beverly Hillbillies and Barnaby Jones fame as a side kick. Daniel Boone also had a song but I can't remember all the words to it but it came from the TV show which Fess Parker played him and his side kick was Mingo I believe, a Native American scout that helped him. Now Will Rogers and Roy Rogers only similarities where the cowboy aspect and last name - Roy Rogers actually it was a 'stage name' for him --- He was married to Dale Evans and they had movies and a TV Show - Roy was a singing cowboy and Will was a talker - both shared wisdom but Will did it more as his calling - Roy more by being a good clean moral cowboy. I think Roy was more attractive also more cowboy, with his horse, Trigger riding the range and fighting bad guys as needed and singing with the Sons of the Pioneers - I think Roy was more tv and Will more radio.

It's funny that I grew up thinking Hitler had brown eyes, because he had brown hair. I believe the majority of brown haired people have brown eyes, but maybe that's black haired people. However, in looking it up, I found that apparently Hitler had startlingly blue eyes. Learn something new every day.

Great wax museum, and much more reality likeness than some modern wax museums, like the ones on Clifton Hill Niagara. Just missing one essential figure in the 2nd World War section: Ike, Dwight Eisenhower of course! And, hm, just a little side note Jacob: When i'm correct the statue of Henry VI is actually of Henry VIII, who had six wives. None of which provided a heir, which was of course their fault and each of them had to die.
