I’m a „Switcher“. Sometimes I play portable, sometimes docked. The only Reason for me the OLED Switch is interesting is the Screen. But it’s ok for me not to have it. I’m happy with the Og Switch and I can put my money in Games.

That is kind of my point of view on the switch OLED. Mine lives in a dock. I know some people rarely or never use theirs in a dock. I just don’t see enough of those people looking for an upgrade. I also can’t imagine that many people have been holding off and then will go for this especially after all those switch pro rumors. That being said, anyone looking to jump into the switch this late in the game will certainly get a nice screen etc. I just can’t quite figure out who this is for other than this last group and a few groups that I think are very niche.

I honestly don't get people buying a second switch for portability reasons, the console is already portable and the lite isn't that smaller, sure it can fit a big pocket but you're not going to carry it around on a pocket, and if you throw it in a bag then it's literally the same if you had a regular switch

Appreciate you doing the burn in test! Tbh, if that scenario you created didn't result in burn - it's hard to imagine a normal user being impacted for a long time. I think the best thing is to just leave auto brightness on really, there are a lot of smart compensations for OLED burn in now you just have to not disable them
@Wft-bu5zc
@Wft-bu5zc 2 жыл бұрын
Auto brightness is super dark on the OLED, so that's probably not a reasonable solution (and not necessary). Turning it on kind of defeats the purpose of the beautiful bright OLED screen. I keep it at about 2-3 clicks below max brightness.

Same, it actually does fix a lot of design issues The flimsy kickstand, now being sturdy and adjustable A bigger screen without the bezel A wider color range, especially blacks, now truly solid black The Switch Lite's ventilation style, so it won't slightly seperate like the original An actual Ethernet port instead of needing an adapter with a confusing USB port And better ventilation on the dock itself (the dock might be significantly redesigned, too)

There’s a difference between “burn in” and “temporary image retention”. Burn in is incredibly rare and takes thousands of hours over a span of years to develop. Temporary image retention can happen more rapidly, but, it’s only temporary and goes away as the pixels refresh. So no, your screen isn’t “ruined” if you happen to develop image retention.

ok you clearly do not know what you are talking about Burn In is with CRTs and happens when the phosphorus layer gets and image burned in to it by the electron ray and was not actually rare i saw a lot of TVs with burn in Image Retention is with LCD this because the liquid crystals can temporarily get stick in earlier screens this was more common but now is actually rare Burn Out is with OLED and happens when the OLED starts to burn out from prolonged use and this is not actually rare it is so common they actually have countermeasures built in to try and prevent it as much as possible yet it will still happen and the only fix for it after it happens is litteraly designed to burn out the rest of your screen to make all of the burn out even thus degradating the life of your screen so on an OLED switch will not get burn in or image retention but burn out and trust me OLED burn out is not temporary i had an old galaxy S7 i used to play Pokémon go with and it had a permanent pokeball on its screen plasmas also had burn out just like OLED and infect most of the countermeasures OLED uses to prevent burn out ware made for plasma screens

Modern OLED does not have burn in issues anymore, unless you somehow manage to play the same game/watch the same video hundreds or thousands of hours straight. My old iphone X has 0 burn in, my friends samsung has 0 burn in and there are no reports of switch OLED burn in even when stressed. If they would be the `original` oled design then sure, but now the tech has improved and oled burn in is just a boogeyman to tell scared shoppers.

I upgraded today from a "V2" Switch. Shockingly, Gamestop gave me $260 for the trade in towards the OLED. Unfortunately, it wasn't the white Joycon/dock version, but for not having a preorder, I'm glad to have got my hands on one. My biggest problem with the OLED Model is now I have a few useless Satisfye grips lying around, and the new grips don't start shipping until sometime next month. Obviously the switch won't output 4k, but what I'm betting on for the future, and especially because they already announced the switch is only in the middle of it's lifetime, is that they'll add some sort of upscaling tech to the dock (or a new dock with upscaling capability). They already patented something in that realm, so that's where I'm betting they're going.

The upgrade to HDMI 2.0 was most likely for support for surround sound in games and movies rather than video upscaling. It may have also been added to allow for 10 and 12-bit color sampling as HDMI 1.4 can only muster up to 8-bit. Also, keep in mind HDMI 1.4 is capable of 4k resolutions at 30Hz or 30 FPS.

One thing I've never got with the screen burn in conversation is why mobiles never seem to get mentioned, I hear it all the time for TV's and recently the Switch OLED, but people rarely mention mobiles and actively seek the OLED display on phones when the only burn in I've ever experienced has been a Pixel 2XL with the battery, time indicators etc. as they're on a lot of the time. (Huge advocate for OLED by the way in case it comes across as otherwise, just you need to take a bit of care of it) Got the OLED switch and as someone who plays pretty much solely in handheld mode I was pretty impressed, the screen is much much nicer, and glass at long long last, and I'm pretty sure the body got some upgrades as it just feels sturdier, all in all I'm pretty pleased with it myself. And anyone who says they can't see the difference between the screens you need to see them side by side it's pretty night and day, not saying the old screen is bad, but the new one is orders of mangitude better, and the extra size is nice as well.

It gets rid of the issue of trying to play downloaded games on different consoles. The only thing you'll still have to do is transfer your save data back and forth depending on which system you're using. Any system will play the same physical cartridge with no issues. But the save data obviously isn't stored on the game cart, it's on your system/sd card. So you'd need to be uploading save data to the cloud regularly and downloading it again each time you want to resume a game on a different console.

You'd think with a lot of hate against the Nintendo right now over this would change their mind, I feel like their strategy is just to watch the fire burn out because they know people are still going to use their services regardless.

@12:10 I have an LG OLED 48" CX 4K 120hz TV that I use as my monitor and had it for over 3 months and no issues what so ever with any type of burn in... no one is going to leave their screen on one static image for days or week or months on end on their OLED tvs or their switch... it takes a lot to even get burn in on new OLED displays

Formatting the Micro SD from your new Switch actually only deletes the games and the file that locks it to your old Switch. You still keep your screenshots and videos on your new Switch. I was so relieved when I found that out.

People, don't worry about burn. Screens are already good enough. Tv, phones with Oled and frankly I haven't problems with burn in. Back in the day with ps vita. That screen was really old technology Oled. Now, it can handle gaming and watching content perfectly

OLED screens are still just as susceptible burn-in. If you only play 1 game for long periods at a time, definitely don't buy an OLED switch. If you play a bunch of different games, it shouldn't be an issue.

@@RockBandRS it's more based on gameplay habits. You just can't turn off your screen, pause it or just press start to the main menu and it will avoid having the same icons on the screen The problem is actually thinking about it, you and I just simple do random things. My personal case is despite I play long session, I drink water, pause the game, sometimes check my phone for message (pause), a little bit of stretching (pause) So I'm pausing the game (kinda constantly), that's why neither my vita Oled has burn, my Sony A8F OLED with ps4, Ps5 and switch during 3 years of full gaming and Netflix, has a single burn. That's why my advice is just enjoy Oled. Unless (like this video) you let your console on the same scenario for unnecessary long time, then you are looking for burn.

@@abeld94 It can also happen gradually over time. On my previous phone (galaxy s8), I got burn in from playing Pokémon go daily during my morning walks. My walks are ~2 hours and my phone was on pretty much the entire time. The burn in didn't happen right away, but it did eventually happen. I think people just need to think about what they play and how long they play it before deciding on an OLED switch.

I only own a Switch Lite because it was a cheaper option for me at the time and it was a perfect size since all I played were visual novels and I constantly travel when I’m on the job, I’m almost never home lol. But now that I’m finally home more often and more financially stable, my desire for a base switch grew. I REALLY regret not going to my nearest retail store to get the OLED because I was waiting for reviews to come out for the device. I thank you for the suggestions on who to follow to get info on any stores that will restock. I can’t wait to get one because the white OLED is beautiful!

heres to anyone thinking of getting an OLED, first if you do i HIGHLY reccomend you to get a clear case over it because the white controllers have turned brown in LESS than a month. 2, get a screen protector, it got scrathed on the very first day just from me trying to put it in the dock.
