Blaming extras are just so stupid, one thing that my film editing professor say to us is "I know you have to cut costs when you're shooting student films, but you NEED to have at least one professional actor on the set, it is your job and the actor's job to guide the extras so they can perform the bare minimum."

I was in a similar situation in college. My friend was a PA on a film and convinced me to come along, without telling me what it was. I ended up being an extra in a softcore gay porno. The director was nice but the shoot went on three hours longer than scheduled, and I remember having to sit in the same position for so many takes while the two leads made out heavily. I took all their coffee from the break room after.
