Opening a veterinary hospital, shelter, and sanctuary for abused, injured, and neglected animals wasn't a lifelong dream, but Animal Aid Unlimited has become Erika's life pursuit and passion.
Seattle native Erika Abrams moved to India with her husband, Jim, and daughter, Claire, nearly 20 years ago, after traveling to the Subcontinent and falling in love with the land and its people.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I see a woman who is a shining example of the making of a saint. She knows life is about more than ones self. Having empathy in all its horror and beauty she uses her live to heal. Thank you Erika

It began with her desire to make something right for a defenseless animal. She seems like a wave of energy, making positive changes in what seemed like a hopeless situation. This is how we change the world to a better place. One person at a time. Please donate and if you can, sponsor one of the animals in their sanctuary. Thank you Erika and all the people involved that are caring for the suffering animals. I cannot imagine how fulfilling it must be to forever change a life of despair to one of love and finally feeling safe. May your organization continue to grow and expand.

I watched a video on yahoo news showing her organization Animals Aid Unlimited rescuing a frail very sad dog whose life looked like it was coming to an end. They rescued and nurtured the dog. I donated to this amazing organization. please donate if you can.

Same here, Cindy! I started donating a small monthly sum of USD12 a month since September or October, and she always, always writes me a sincere and personalised email of gratitude. I thought it was just a template email at first, but gradually, I could see that she really took time to craft a thank you letter. I am so amazed by her. I wish more people would donate their money and time, however insignificant it may seem, to help her wonderful organisation. Let our small acts of kindness compound over time!

I'm asking my friends to donate money to her rescue centre instead of buying me a birthday present. My sister is also doing it for her birthday and I hope my friends will do the same. Isn't it a great idea? ;)

I can't imagine how Erika finds the time to write to all those who donate to her (and her family's) cause. I would have thought she'd have very little time, considering how much she has to do just on a daily basis -- but she does it anyway. My deepest respect and admiration to her, her family and staff.

Erika writes to me too. I have started to donate each month and I am so impressed with the work they all do for these poor souls. May she be able to continue and spread the word that it makes a better world if we all care for what is around us.

Erika is truly an amazing woman - I am inspired by her story! She took time out to write to me after I donated to Animal Aid Unlimited when I saw a story about a dog injured on a street and a man picked him up to help him on facebook - how thoughtful of her.

this is all the more touching as it is done so ... amateurish. She's so real, so simply good. And deeply right, too. And I bet not only do the people who work with her "profit" but everyone in the area, all the people who call animal aid to help show, that there is a genuine want for harmony among all living creatures. It is much better to live in an environment that cares for the small and helpless, much better for the hearts and souls of everyone.

You throw in a small insignificant donation and the was she writes emails to you is just touching. I used to think these are standard mails, but it was personal to me. I even started replying and her replies were even bigger. She literally takes her time to be grateful and she makes you feel accomplished.

Some(Not All)Indians should really feel ashamed that how they are destroying their ancient glorious culture by aping the west and being cruel to animals and how the west is beginning to change and turn away from Animal Cruelty. Go Vegan and donate as much u can to help every soul inside a skin.
