Perfect handwriting and celebrity autographs don't really seem to matter anymore. And in general, no one appears to care about signatures - except in one very significant case.

@Altorin
@Altorin 5 жыл бұрын
Well it doesn't prove identity and never really has. All it does is shift the blame when something goes wrong. It's not so much that the person asking for your signature wants to prove its you. They want to have something to point at and say "I didn't screw up this person signed the paper" Whether it's you or not is beside the point. It's not them. That's the point.

As Altorin said it's not a proof of identity as such but neither is it to shift "blame". It's a proof that you agreed to something. Usually you want witnesses as well if it's a serious enough document. You could have seen a document but not agree to it, but by having you sign it actively agreed to it. In western culture an agreement is solid, whether it's a handshake over a pint of beer or an iron clad contract written by an army of lawyers. The signature is a way to prove that the agreement took place.

Yeah it wont those that have not been trained what to look for in signatures will often make the mistake of looking for them to look identical ironically signatures looking two close to identical is actually more of a bad sign especially if it is accompanied by strange variations in the depth and continuity of the pen strokes taken together things like that are some pretty big red flags that someone has attempted to trace or draw what they think the signature should look like than they are signing in a natural way. The ironic thing is that the same thing that causes many inexperienced forgers to give themselves away is what makes most of those that have had no training wrongly look for completely the wrong things when comparing signatures namely the mistaken belief that signatures should be identical or even close to it if they were signed by the same person. Humans make really poor substitutes for a photocopier as they are terrible at copying themselves let alone anyone else.

Because of that, actual teachers have accused me of faking her signature, so I changed mine whenever I had to co-sign papers for school; the issue disappeared together with my old signature. I have been exclusively voting per mail since I'm allowed to vote. Now I wonder if we in Germany also check the signatures or not. I know we have to sign something but it never states that it will be checked with data they have. I mean my current signature looks really differnet from that on my driver's license or even that on my identity card. I somehow think we don't from what wikipedia states. And I can only agree that voting via mail increases my willingness to cast my vote. Here elections are always held on a sunday. Do you think I want to get out of bed on a sunday when I can get the stuff via mail, fill it out and put it back into the mail box FOR FREE on my way to university? Hell no. According to statistics 1/4 of Germans already vote this way, so I guess it is time for the US to introduce it into all states too if you want more voters.

E. K .O - As far as I can tell, there were many different variations of the handwritten name "Walt Disney" used in logos and titles over Disney's early history, and while it's unlikely these were drawn by Walt himself, most of them did at least resemble a version of his ever-changing autograph style. Some time after Walt's death, the company settled on one specific variant to use as its official logotype, and stuck with it.

This information in the video is incorrect. The main "Walt Disney" signature currently being employed by The Walt Disney Company today was used several times by the organization during Walt Disney's lifetime, including at the Progressland pavilion for the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. Do a search for an image of the entrance sign that read, "General Electric PROGRESSLAND: A Walt Disney Presentation."

It's someone consistent if I do a long signature but for short spaces I need to shorten it etc on a check. @108nighthawk

@@redcitadel8354 Who said it needs to be in cursive? Many, if not most signatures are half-legible. It certainly helps to know cursive, and I blame the schools for your lacking in that skill, but so long as you can make a consistent and distinct mark you will do fine. It helps prevent fraud. If you even needed to write a large check and the teller and the bank noticed an inconsistency in signatures then they would and should refuse the check. That could be your rent or another bill that NEEDED to be in by a certain time. Bullshit you say? It prevents you from losing your check or credit card and someone being capable of draining your account because "you are in a rush to make a deposit". You are almost an adult, you need to be taking life and especially your financial security seriously. No responsible bank employee would risk their job or even sympathize with you because of something like an inconsistent mark. Make an "X" it is really all that complicated. Sorry if that is too harsh but I am equally annoyed at the lack of basic skills like cursive handwriting in today's youth (and I am only 22) and your lame excuses for a bad signature; so forgive me.
