I was told about 100 years ago to practice arpeggios by using chromatic notes to arrive at each chord tone/target note; any and all directions. It transformed my improvisation in weeks. I still do it as part of my daily routine. Sounds simple and kinda obvious; and I spose it is. But it really works.....

Thanks for a very practical lesson...will add that to my daily regimen. Your sessions are very enjoyable. I'm an intermediate player who has been studying jazz for a couple of years, though I'm not a jazz musician. A lesson I would like to see is what/how to practice adding extended chords [easy to hard.....] to various chord progressions to enrich the piano accompaniment to songs. I am practicing the chords and inversions themselves, but the goal is to be able to PLAY them, something like you demonstrated in this lesson. I keep thinking there is a formula of some kind to know which chord to insert somewhere, but maybe it's freer than that. Any thoughts/ideas on the subject would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers.....and thanks again for all your effort for us cyberstudents.......

😄Great vid. I taught myself the min 3 chromatic scale forward and reverse.. I learned so many things. The fingering was.unatural..now I do it fast and effortlessly. It is amazing for confidence. I probably did it hundreds of times for almost.a year. It has so many side benefits. I instantly know all min 3rds forwards and backwards. If I see Eb..min 3rds are Gb up and C down.. dim Eb triad for starters. In the extensions.. So one day I realized I instantly knew the 13th of all 13 keys. That is empowering for a musician. It.helps for 🎸 too. [[ I know you know all this but pardon me if I explain this at a entry level for newer musicians.. C-C is an octave the notes above the octave can be types of 9s 11ths and 13ths. To be accurate a dominant 13 must have a root ,major 3, 6 and b7.]] Enough backgroun. So one day I was playing in one of 12 keys. I don't remember which. I am going to use the key of C for easy explanation. So I needed the 13 of C..Now after playing litererally. thousands of hours; I of.course knew that.the A was the 13th . (7 + 6 = 13) ..It came immediately.. My mind was realizing that I could go down a minor 3rd in the key of.C or up a major 6. It was an aha moment. That would be CDEFGA or CBA. But.I realized that I did not have to count I knew 13s in all 12 keys. Doesn't sound so great. Try Gb13..up. 6 Gb Ab Bb Cb Db Eb Wow or .down a.minor 3fd. Gb F Eb (NO NEED YO COUNT UP A.MAJ 6.OR.DOWN A MIN.SIX. It ok can know it. I knew instantly that it was the Eb. If I want to do a progression. like a 1 3 6 .Easy enough in C. C Em Am.. But let's use Ab..the min 3rd down of Ab is F. or of course we can go up in 6 flats AB.Bb C Db Eb F..This elimates.all this work. In the real world we don't have time to. count. Sometimes we are are improvising at a very fast tempo. I texted this on a small 📱. I hope some are helped with it.

I can see the versatility of doing all 12 chromatic scales. One thing is it will help with seeing 1/2 steps and whole steps. The 3 to 4 and 7 to 8 are the only 1/2 steps in the major scale. Great Video.. I wrote of my experience of learning the min 3s. It is indepth but it should help an advancing beginner. The best.

Could you guys make a video where you never talk or try to be funny and stick to playing (preferably old standards at slow to medium-slow tempos - in time with a a real rhythm section) Also, when you improvise with the rhythm section, it would be nice to hear you play eighth notes at a slower tempo instead of double timing or sixteenth notes ...that way we can hear your vocabulary and how you really swing ( I suggest slow tempos because there is no hiding at slower tempos, your real vocabulary comes through. You have to deal with all that space and still make it swing without “skating through the changes” akin double time solos on ballads or slower tempos ) ...thanks Ps- my comment is Barry Harris approved 👍
