As a small girl with a relatively heavy bike. I always put the kickstand down, walk around the bike and tilt it a little towards me on the other side. The Kickstand is high up in the air and doesn't bother me while moving the bike. If it tilts towards me I can catch it early enough. In the unfortunate event, it falls to the other side my kickstand saves my bike from falling over. Since I do it like that I never had it fall over. 6 Years and counting :)

We spent about 1 to 2 hours just moving the bike around like this at the MSF class. Mainly using the kickstand down "technique". Instructor told us to pick a different bike every so often during that particular class to get used to different weight so that we'd have an idea on how to handle diffrent kinds of bikes. I've never dropped my 390 Duke and can move it around the garage with ease and confidence.

Or girls can just do it themselves and thank you, but "I'm good." I'm kidding, but seriously I get bothered by common courtesy. Why? Cause it's kinda bullshit. It promotes gender stereotypes and while getting the door for anyone is nice, I like the idea of people being able to take care of themselves. Maybe instead of getting the door for "a lady" ahem. Maybe get the door for some kindly elderly folks, or handicapped individuals who have daily struggles. That's all I'm saying. Back to your original thought. Another useful maneuver is dragging the rear tire around. Holding the bike while standing next to it, lock the handlebar and grab the tail section of the seat. Lean the bike toward yourself pretty far and you can drag the back end, pivoting on the front tire. Works well on loose or smooth surfaces but does take some muscle.

I love and have been using the kickstand pivot method for 20 years. Before trying this, inspect your connecting point for the kick stand. Some are just not strong enough. I've personally had it go bad, and I've seen it go bad. It's never been the kick stand that failed, its always been at the mounting point. I've seen cracked engine block bosses, bent/broken mounts, even a twisted frame tube. Again, I use this technique but it comes with vigilance and judgement.

I'm a shorter/smaller rider and have a 450 or so pound Versys 650, aka Yam's favorite motorcycle, and find that it's better to stand and hold from the right side of the bike with the kick stand down. That way I have the front brake in hand, can catch the bike if it tips toward me, and don't have to worry as much about it falling away from me since the kickstand will catch it as well. PS: Why can't New Yorkers like myself participate in the giveaway?

You need a license to ride tho lol but in most states you don't have to take a class. I took the class and it was literally the easiest thing, got 0 points added in the test. The class does however make it it obvious that someone people should be no where near a bike, people dropping their bike 3 plus times in a day, and even crashing during the slightest faster turn. Overall the class In America is basically useless other then finding out if you're one of those people that should never go near a bike.

The day after I got the permit, I went and bought a bike from a dealership. Lmfao A dealership will not let you drive off the lot without the endorsement but you can throw it in a trailer and they won’t say anything 😂 And second hand bikes you can just buy from whoever you want with no questions lol

When pushing next to the bike I like always having a tiny amount of pressure on the front brake. Pull the lever just enough that it would light the brake light if the bike were on but doesn't prevent you from moving it. I don't know why, but I find it easier to go from a little brake to a little more brake than going from no brake to a little brake. And grabbing too much front brake while not on the bike is highly likely to end up with the bike on the ground.

Honestly, I just bought a set of Dynamite stands. Fits all my bikes. Spin and move at ease.

I move my bikes opposite the kickstand with the kickstand down leaning it toward me. With my method all you have to do is push it to the kickstand. I have more strength in my legs to prevent the bike from falling toward me then to prevent it from falling away from me. Plus you are on the side of the front break if It wants roll away from you.

I'd be really cautious about using method #3. I tried it on my aprilia shiver few years back and that bent side stand just enough that side stand switch dies not close anymore. So bike always thinks the side stand is off.

I've always used method 2 with the kick stand up... Method 3 can be pretty handy tho.

I'm definitely not recommending to anyone that they just hack together a jack and a furniture dolly for moving the bike around the shop. Even if it's what I do.

Yup! I dont know why more people don't do this. A little sketchy on my Bonneville T120 cause the center of gravity is so low, but still...

A friend used to do Kickstand turns on his KTM SM990 - The welds at the kickstand hinge bracket slowly weakened then cracked causing the bike to fall over onto others nxt to it, while parked one fine day I guess that method works best when the surface friction is not too high, i.e. mb on loose sand (which brings abt other problems/issues) 😅

Hello Yammie Noob, 2 weeks ago I got a 2015 W800 in Mint Condition, not ridden it yet as the weather where I am has been bad/good/bad etc. As I haven't ridden any Bike in over a decade and am small, moving it around to start with was scary as fuck. If/when I drop this stunning Bike I am going to cry like a Baby. Thanks for the tips, will stick with Option 2 thank you. Thanks for what you do, need all the Tips I can get at the moment & yes I did re-buy a Twist of the Wrist, I need all the of The Knowledge I can get at the moment :)

I used to do that last trick while lubing my chain. I’d pull the bike back on the kickstand while turning the rear wheel with my right hand.

If you have a 125 scooter like me, just drag the thing sideways across the pavement. Lift either end and place it where you want it.

I used to do this with a Striple. Not sure it's a good idea with larger bikes such as the R3r. Would the kickstand hold?

It works but do it enough times and it will snap your side stand. Also if it catches a crack on ground it’s sitting on. I only do it in the garage where it’s smooth.

Yeah I'm use the kick stand technique everytime coz it's easier but the bolts connecting the stand and to the bike might come lose overtime.

I was excited to try this only to find out I can't get the front wheel off the ground on my cb1000r. Engine must be too heavy and too far ahead of the kickstand

With the tip "standing and holding. isnt it better to be on the opposite site of the kickstand if its start fall like you show at 6:50 ? Then you have the leverage of your body on one side and the kickstand (if you let it be down) and i guess you never lean the bike as much towards the opposite side of you when taking a sharper turn?
