i remember this song coming out when i was 4-5 years old and i loved how catchy it was. now i’m 16 and this song has a whole new meaning to me. i recently just had a boyfriend. we met through another friend at a choir social and a week later we ended up being friends. a month later we were in our school’s theatre musical together (he was sound crew and i was deck). we would sit on the sound booth window together before our call times and that was when we started feeling comfortable around each other. and then he soon became my last minute date to homecoming. another week or so later we had these plate awards, which is an annual tradition for my school’s theatre club. my boyfriend and i both got the cinderella and prince charming awards, which was where we got our halloween costume idea from. we dated for 3 months but a few days ago we broke up and i’m still trying to handle things.

This song takes me back to my first crush. I was a 10 year old fat kid with no friends and I always got bullied. One day I was shopping with my mum, and we bumped into a boy from my class called Jacob. He was shopping with his mum too. Our mums got talking and so did we. We'd never talked to eachother before. I was pretty intimidated by him at first because he was the class clown. He was really popular and mischievous in class. Pretty sure the teachers hated him. But once we got talking, he was actually really sweet and kind to me. After that, we hung out together after school about twice a week, we played on the Wii, went to the park and the woods together and we became really good friends. One day, I was sitting on the school field and these girls started throwing stones at me. I shielded myself and cried but they kept going. Then suddenly, I heard Jacob yell 'Oi, what the fuck are you doing?!' and the girls laughed and ran away. Jacob was with his friends but he sat next to me on the grass and asked me if I was okay. I was crying a lot at this point. I sobbed and replied 'they just started throwing stones. I don't know what I did wrong.' Then he stood up, turned around to his friends and said 'come on boys, let's batter them.' (British slang for beat them up) And I watched as him and his friends ran after the girls in the distance. At first I saw him yelling at one of them. Then suddenly, it broke out into a big fight. Him and his friends beat up the girls and they never bullied me again after that. He got into trouble with the teachers but he refused to apologize. At that point, I instantly had feelings for him. He was like my hero and no one had ever stood up for me before. And he was the only kid who ever showed me kindness in that school. A few months later, the summer holidays began and we had to move onto high school. Unfortunately Jacob and I went to different schools. So we eventually lost touch. The only times I've seen him after that was when I've been driving and he's walking down the street or crossing the road. So I can't just stop, get out the car and say hello. Even though I've wanted to. I've had a few crushes after him, but he'll always have a special place in my heart. I just wish I'd kept in touch with him. And wherever he is or whatever he's doing now, I really hope he's happy.
