Congratulations!!! 🎉 Also…100%. Success is what you make it. I work in a welding shop starting at 4 am, but The Lord provides enough, my kids have never gone hungry, and I spent every night with my family. I am successful. Much love, brother!

So true, I have struggled with the competitive aspect of this industry for so long but i’m now stepping back and making music and experimenting with sounds just for the love and curiosity of it and I’ve seen exponential growth in my abilities but also my mentality

so true, these things literally change nothing. no award makes you a better person. they all look great when the artist walks in the room and they see the gold and platinum and grammy(s) and other awards, but if you're not a good hang, those will never get you BACK in the room

I feel like I really needed to hear someone say this! The sincerity in your voice when you said these things really struck home! I ask myself always, "Am I good enough?" I haven't had much time to put into my craft, lately,, but always come back to it. I want it to be more than a hobby. I constantly ask myself, how does an introvert meet people to collab with? Will someone see my worth if I collab with them and them with me? Am I good enough to collab with people? You see all the things that goes on in someone's head? Please HELP me get out of my own head, lol! Anyone have answers?

I have to get outside. I like to lift and jog. I’m no good at either of them. But they help me get out of my head. Find something other than music that does that for you. It can help you regulate

Appreciate this perspective man. So many people chase the plaques and the accolades, only to lose themselves and the passion for what made them want to create. That said, you have a great view of this and it speaks to me and a lot of people my age trying to be in this industry. Congrats brother, happy to see you winning in the studio and out!

Thanks 🙏 so much for this. I have been playing music for decades and I still feel like I’m not good at it. I started a KZfaq channel and offered lessons and still doubt if I’m good enough. I used to have a small home studio and also thought I’m not good enough. I recently built a very nice studio for recording and also recording my lessons for my channel and that message you instilled in me has made my decision to push myself forward and to realize I am good enough. Thanks so much for opening up to us ❤.

Two things that you said are so true, one of them being how no matter how good or bad it gets when you are doing the music or playing out or whatever you just keep doing it, and the other was being around people, whether it’s your wife or whomever that’s behind you in what you do, I wrote songs back in the 80s and then I was in sort of an industrial accident that put me out of a commission for a long time, I finally decided to try to record them over the past year and I’d seen videos by Justin Ostrander about guitar playing and playing on peoples music in Nashville so I sent him a song to play someguitar parts on last month, while I was double checking my dropbox link the song may have played for 5 Seconds or so and my wife who was in the kitchen said that no one wants to hear that crap so I quickly turned it off, and about five minutes later I get an email from Justin saying awesome, and is it OK if I put a video up about the overdub session? My point is if you’re not around people that support you in what you do, make a change. Before you waste your time and lose your dreams.

Congrats! I love your philosophy in this video and the music, the way it was shot, all of it was so perfectly done! Great video! Also want to know why i left LA was because no one really cared about YOU it was always about who you’ve worked with and if you’ve gotten any gold records or accolades. I personally don’t care about that stuff, i want to lift up other creators to help them in their next successes. Getting gold records and accolades as an engineer is often luck. Was this person already really talented, did they get signed with the record you made or were already signed? Do they already have a big fan base? It builds over time. And while i do have some artists I’ve worked with sell really well it’s often locally or in the thousands or tens of thousands. Not hundreds of thousands. And i just don’t care. I get the positive feedback from them and that’s what matters to me. The ‘good hang’ as you call it is what keeps me going. And let me tell you that some of the more “popular artists” I’ve worked with have NOT been good hangs. They were more anxious, more abusive, etc. Granted this was while i lived in LA. Where people fake it until they make it, where they will be essentially homeless and pour everything (time, energy, and money) into their music career hoping to make it big and get signed. LA is a town where everyone chases fame and clout chases. No one really wants to hang or have work life balance and they definitely don’t value your time (but value their own very highly). It’s a strange place. Portland, where i am now, is all about a thriving indie scene, helping each other out, paying people their worth, and want a good hang more than anything. Anyway again congrats, long over due! You’re very talented and I’m glad you are staying grounded despite things that often give other people massive egos.

Is there one thing ive learned from making my first albums, is that it doesnt matter if you choose the most expensive famous high demand engineer/mixer. how much they cost is not neccisarily related to how good they will fit your project or you. Its all about finding the right people for you to work with. Ive gotten way better results working with friends that understand the vision and cheaper guys who go the extra mile getting to now me, rather than the top guys who just do the job and dont wanna spend more than bare minimum energy on it. I feel its getting to a more even level playingfield with the gear avaliable these days and lots of talented people out there that are looking for work. I had the false idea that i needed to work with someone expensive and high regarded to make something «competetive». When in reality the mixes I got from people that cost 10 times more where most of the time worse or just as good. Its all about the relationship. Also the thing that rubs me the wrong way is that alot of those top mixers have the arrogance that they have done it sucessfully so many times they are always right. So I sent a blindtest/AB of the roughmixes vs the pro mixes out to 10 friends and 90% of them prefered the rough better. After spending sooo much money on killfees, and mixes that were bad , I think maybe finally got the confidence that i can in fact do everything myself. But its hard when everybody tells you you should never mix your own stuff haha. Im conflicted😅 maybe whqt im trynna say is that the people who are at the top are just people too, their price isnt neccicarily reflect how good they fit for YOUR project. Its all just taste. They cant magically make your stuff sound better, only different, and within their taste. Find somebody who hears music the same way as you, but also good to get outside opinions to know you are not completely gone blind.

please remove the buddha from your house/studio, the rooms you are living and working in. It won't bring good things to your life: It will bring depression, conflicts etc. and more demonic things. Thank me later. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. And Buddha is from the other side. Believe me. Your life will be better without

Plz dont tell people what religion to believe in. Thinking yours is the right one doesnt make it the right one for everybody, it shows a lack of openmindedness and a lack of respect for others. Maybe you should have some self insight about your comment

It is not that I don't respect anyones religion. But a lot of people nowadays have these figures of buddha in there houses/gardens for decorational purposes but don't believe in it. And if that is the case here: I tell you there are less spititual dangerous options to decorate your room/house/garden etc. But if you truely do believe in this religion and their practices just go for it. I am telling that because I myself have experience with demonic objects. And the freedom after removing that from my house and turning fully to Jesus Christ and let him fill my whole heart is just amazing. I can tell you: the peace of Jesus is soo much better, then anything else. And Jesus Christ is also experienceable and feelable similar to what you get from Buddhism, but in a way more natural and satisfying way that will lead you to true inner freedom. -> Worship and inviting the holy Spirit in to your heart is the key here.
