What I though was going to be and easy boring day takes a turn when my colleague Rachel gets a load that will not come out of the grain hatch. watch to see how we problem solve this

Yes. A proper respiratory mask with filters. They're not expensive. Not compared to a life.

@@phillylarkin.s1930could you explain in more detail please? My gut instinct is airborne particles going in lungs are bad, is this mitigated due to grain being a bio product? Again, I have no idea but I would certainly be avoiding breathing that dust, even just to save myself half a loo roll blowing it all out of my nose

No, why am I trying to justify this. It's bad. Wear even the most basic respiratory gear. Grain is presumably some percentage water, that can cause pleurisy on inhalation. PPE is an interesting one, when one wears an orange jacket and hard hat to unload at below head height, yet airborne contaminates which are arguably far more risky are treated differently. I'm sure Wains have a proper risk assessment, I've seen a few comments about the dust on here. Jemma, either enlighten us or pop a mask on! 😂 Excellent channel by the way, 1k subs since I subscribed about 4 days ago, mental rate of growth!

The start of this video is very much home territory for me! The avenue of trees just up from the first farm is reputed to have been planted with 365 beech trees on one side and 366 on the other. As part of the Bankes Estate that owned a chunk of Studland, the trees were planted to provide work for ex-servicemen (again reputed) Many of the trees have gone now, a lot blown down during the hurricane we had in the 1980s. The avenue has been used for location filming several times over the years such as an advertesment for Vauxhall cars.

Brilliant video as usual Jemma, always so interesting watching your adventures. I use to predominantly haul coal, which meant I looked like a minor pretty much all week . Its interesting too me that you suffer the same problem with grain. Although the air line and moisturiser, I would have welcomed 😅.

Another good video Gemma, always make me laugh that farmers have to cut the grain dry, the mills check the moisture and then design the tipping pits so that the rain runs straight down the cover and in with the product 😂

Oh the fame 😂 lol . That was me waiting to tip in the M way lorry ( passport issue ) this was sorted ,so they swapped bins so I could tip on pit 1 straight yourself. Result . Then had a long drive to my reload at Devon grain opposite 😂👍.

The requirement to mandate that employees wear PPE is the employer’s responsibility. It is unfortunate(?) that Wains do not insist that employees working on bulk wear appropriate mask PPE. I watch regularly and the volume of dust and other particles that Jemma is exposed to daily and obviously inhales, if these videos are anything to go by, is considerable. Take care Jemma and think long term- best wishes!

You need a dust mask Jemma, the dust you can see on your face is nothing to the dust your breathing in, trust me im a x coal miner who has dust on my lungs and you dont want the crap us old miners are having with breathing problems in later life

Hi Jemma, You do a great job of showing that women are every bit as capable as men of doing a job, which when I was young only men would be considered for. I love the way you muck in, not afraid to get your hands dirty, but at the same time you always wear nail varnish and makeup, and manage to look nice.

Great attention to detail. Wouldn't like to be breathing that dust in. They ought to provide a remote camera so you can see what's going on the trailer while in the cab to save time getting in and out. RHA ought to get you to do a video for prospective HGV drivers.

Thanks for posting Jemma great video. Fridays are stressful truck driving trying to get on and hoping you drop in right at the mills which usually have more loads being delivered anyway for the weekend but half an hour in the morning can mean 2 or 3 in the afternoon but you can only do your best thanks again.

After seeing this I now know how my mums former neighbours (1940's) were coal and grain merchants. I could never work out how they managed to do it with one truck.

Have you tried the new electronic grain passports yet? A lot of farmers hate the idea, but it could be simpler and aid traceability. Part of the debate is that imported grain is quite often not documented assured .

It's great to see you are not the only female driver at Wains Transport. What was Rachel's load, sand? It was indeed very sticky, no wonder most of it didn't want to come out. Her trailer looks totally different than yours, I assume that's an older model. This was an easy Friday, which is always a good thing.
