People that are saying that it doesn't make any sense for rick to cut off his own hand are completely disregarding his mental health at this moment.

My favorite thing about this scene is the fact that Rick lopping his own hand off was all Andrew Lincolns idea. Like he had to convince Gimple and everyone during production that Rick had to lose his hand.

As cool as it is that it finally happened, I kinda hate the fact that it was pointless. Like he cut his hand off to get free only to immediately get caught

I think he severely underestimated the amount of blood he was gonna lose, and how slow he was gonna get, but being that desperate he probably thought death woulda been a better option anyways

I'm not gonna lie Daryl would've done the same if he thought this was his only way to escape CRM. But it's a shame cause you can't escape them just by yourself. If Rick had known what kind of an organization CRM was he never would've done this.

MY favorite scene in the whole spinoff after watching the first 2 episodes, seeing rick and michonne meet the group again if that happens, will probably beat this but it will always be close as a huge comics twd fan and I just love the idea of him losing his hand

They so should've done flashbacks to Rick being forced to cut off Carl's hand by Negan, definitely see some comparisons to that in this scene

I like that it symbolizes a huge thing for us going in, is that no matter what you do, the CRM won't let you leave under any circumstances. Yes him cutting off his hand was a bit stupid in how he did it, but it works still for the symbolism. Personally, I think most of us would have preferred if after he got yanked by the cord, his hand got bit by a walker on the ground and he instinctively cuts off his hand AND THEN realizes the chain is off and he can run.

I generally love this scene overall. This was about Rick's 4th escape attempt, and throughout the episode, you were able to witness Rick's mental state. The depression. The desperation. The overwhelming desire to get home and back to his family. The place he fought so hard & lost for, just for him to get ripped from it by Jadis for her own personal gain. Especially adding with how many years he's been gone. They should've added flashbacks, or glimpses of images of his friends & family waiting for him back at Alexandria to add more depth into this scene. I especially love it how Andrew Lincoln acted with the shock from chopping his hand off, and the aftermath. You can hear the shivering pain from his voice and see it within his eyes also. THIS MAN DESERVES A FUCKING GRAMMY, OR WHATEVER AWARD THAT WILL ACKNOWLEDGE HIS ACTING SKILLS!

All the walking dead shows need to end. Once they stopped following the books it got stupid, and became a prime time soap opera. Zombies are always a fad they come in with a new idea until they've been done to death(pun intended) then they go away, let them go away until a new idea arrives( last of us).

(MINOR SPOILERS FOR RICK'S HAND INJURY) I haven't fully finished the original show, but I know enough about Rick at this point, that he's probably already tried nearly everything else for an escape to no avail, leading to this last ditch effort to finally be free so that he can find his family. Sadly, it was all in vain and he ended up sacrificing ol' lefty for.. ultimately nothing. He did however, gain a significant upgrade in place of his missing hand, now possessing a hidden blade (Assassin's Creed) which basically means that as long as people think it's just a glove, Rick is now always armed and ready with his knife which appears long enough to pierce the jugular and come out the other side. It's not just a knife tho, as it can even be used to defend against other knives or even a katana, which kinda showcased just how durable his new (conveniently hidden) permanent weapon is! Now, hopefully there's no one left who's smart and quick enough, that they're able to remove Rick's hand...
