Okay Kiva, I have to give it to you! This was one of the best video's I've seen all year on KZfaq! I've needed these measurements without realizing it. I was doing guesses instead of just simply asking you to put a video like this together. This is freakin' awesome! Keep'em coming 😍

I watch way too many videos, because I knew all of these. Not the exact mathematical formulas, but the concept. There is nothing worse than a rug that is too small. Putting those curtains up as high as u can is a game changer. These are all great tips! ❤❤

Love this type of video and as an engineer I really appreciate the formulas and diagrams!! So helpful! I will be putting my primary bedroom (and whole house) back together hopefully in a couple of months after being out of it for over a year after a broken pipe flood and will be using your tips when I do - thanks! (On the art tip though, I think you meant to say “multiply” by .75… rather than “divide” because dividing by .75 will give you a result larger than the number you started with? Double check me on that. 😉)

I love this! Thank you! So easy to follow to improve everything in my bedroom! Now I know why it looks so awful. If you are willing, it would be great if you made a similar video for a livingroom and dining room. How far apart should chairs, couches, or coffee tables be? What is the height difference between an end table and a sofa table? Why would you use one vs the other? What size area rug for the livingroom is best? What size is the ideal space to leave between the edge of your dining table and the wall so your chairs have enough room for someone to comfortably move in and out from the table? I would rather spend money on furniture that works, instead of wasting time and money on what doesn't.

Having just (almost) finished doing a whole new primary bedroom, I think I actually hit most of these points! My goal was a Ralph Lauren meets CB2 vibe… on a Wayfair budget. It’s a rental so I’m not planning on switching out the fan (I also live in the US south so it’s needed in the summer.) I opted for corded pendants over the nightstands so I could have more space to display my fragrances and books. I also did corner to corner curtains on two walls to give a luxe hotel vibe, and to give the windows behind the bed a more centered look…. Whoever built this house clearly didn’t plan for a king bed.. so I just use the curtain panels and center the opening behind the nightstands so you can’t tell the window extends to behind the headboard. I’m thinking about using the curtain rod as a bit of an art rail and potentially hanging some lightweight frames on picture wire to float in front of the curtains.

Thank you Kiva. Love these videos. the basic design facts. Ive been putting together a bedroom in my home as my own space and eventual home office/jewelry studio. I have a longer than wider room and your advice to put the furniture perpendicular will actually look so much better as well as the rug orientation. i was using a sofa as a room divider but it would just take up the whole floor. Thank you so much. The visuals help it all make sense!!

Putting bed right across the door is a very bad Feng Shui, esp if the soles of your feet are facing that door. I was once made that mistake. My health really suffers. So my friend suggested that I moved the bed perpendicular to the door. At first I didn't believe it but I figured out that I had nothing to lose in trying....and my health really improved quickly!

I like the pillow arrangement that hotels normally use because it is practical as well as attractive. It is two standard size sleeping pillows stacked on each other on both sides. By standard, I mean standard, Queen or King size. One pillow is soft, the other is firmer. The pillow cases are steamed wrinkle free. The pillows are not old, sad, flat pancakes. They should be used with pillow protectors and purchased every six months if necessary. Decorative pillows are not needed for this look, allowing you to have a more serene nighttime routine without the hassle and clutter of useless pillows. The reason this look is attractive is because the sheeting and cases will be crisp, clean and wrinkle free, and the duvet and blanket will be quality.

Great video. The rug sizing was so helpful. It was all good except for the pillows on the bed. I just can't take all those pillows. It's two pillows for me. Just right for sleep, plus I'm not removing pillows at night to put them back in the morning. If you can sleep with all those pillows, that's a surprise.

Great tips and advice. For me though, my nightstand situation breaks all the rules. I consider nightstand space to be prime real estate that is often wasted. So, I use two bachelor's chests (total 6 full size drawers) as my nightstands. They are too tall and too wide, but they fit on the wall with my bed and I simply wouldn't have it any other way. I've done this for decades in multiple homes/rooms and with different bedroom furniture. I can reach the lamp and anything else. I just have to reach up a bit.
