Retiring soon and 520k worth of my positions are depleted. I am still making my employers match but I don’t want to sell since I missed out on the big sell off and wouldn’t want to wait on the sidelines, just confused as to what to continue doing apart from keep putting money in but I begin to think about the sunk cost fallacy and maybe I should consult with a licensed professional with valid ideas.

I don’t know how but you’ve managed to package an unbiased analysis that is more entertaining than the sensationalized segment of economic and financial news. Thank you for your efforts to be the signal and not the noise. I understand that the economy is in currently in a downturn and that we must wait for the stock market to recover in order to break even and make a profit.

As hard as it may sound you can plan for the recession. If you are working, find extra work and get an Invest--advisor. Protect your deposits by having enough cash in short term fixed income. Then cut your expenses. Minimal insurance, cut utilities.

Such market uncertainties are the reason I don’t base my market judgements and decisions on rumors' and hear-says, it got the best of me in the year 2020 and had me holding worthless positions in the market. I had to revamp my entire portfolio through the aid of Heather my financial advisr, before I started seeing any significant results happens in my portfolio. Been using the same advisor since then and I’ve scaled up almost a million within 2 years. Whether a bullish or down market, both makes for good profit, it all depends on where you’re looking.

Hi Warikoo, thanks for this and for adding the English subtitles. You seem well versed in investing and I have one question. As a foreigner in the States and given the times, would it be better to go into into real estates or stocks. I have been confused on the better option and where and how to go about this. Can't seem to find the most appropriate and of utmost importance is higher income and a less time intensive option.

Why not both? With the present economy, you should never forget to diversify. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. As one who has been into Real Estates for as long as I can remember, I made my first million late last year from stocks alone (got the services of an expert because I also have time constraints). I also experiment with a couple of other things. Hard to imagine that I had initially refused to try out new possibilities. Good luck.

Hi Ankur. This a very helpful video. Thank you for sharing. I have doubt. In the 50:30:20, i understand 50% for needs, 30% for wants and 20% for investments. So 80% gone for present and remaining 20% for unplanned as you explained in the start of you video then from where should spend for unplanned? So called emergency fund, health & term insurance? Should this be allocated out of 50% of yhe salary kept for needs?

But I have a few questions like, if we are going to plan present life with 50:30:20 rule based on our complete monthly salary then from where will we invest for unplanned life? the premiums which we are required to pay for the unplanned life? And Secondly, as per 50:30:20, 50% are needs so it will be expensed, 20% will be invested, and 30% are kept to complete our desires so where will we keep this 30% ? in what form?

This is an extremely simplistic way of looking at investing. Sure you’ll end up with good amount of money at the end of 30-40 years but is this enough or is this too much becomes the main issue. Investing should be a well thought out and efficient approach, where you sit and make a list of your goals, figure out how much you need to achieve the goal and then start working backwards to figure out how much to save and where to invest.
