for a better understanding of JSD's point, you should bring him. Kushal is not correctly phrasing JSD's view, because Kushal is directly talking about decoloniality, whereas JSD has always clarified that decoloniality for Bharat will be different and it has to be discussed. JSD clarified the difference between post-coloniality, post-modernism and decoloniality.

You hit the nail on the head. JSD is very humble in making these points. His emphasis is about using Decolonial framework in Indian context, mainly epistemic reconstitution. Again, JSD has been clear about how "rationality" "modernity" were used by the colonizer to systematically map their OETs on Dharmic OETs in an effort to suppress the emergence of Hindu/dharmic consciousness among the colonized. It was colonizer's objective to show how "irrational" and "primitive" our way of life was and how regressive and useless our traditional knowledge systems were. It is in this context, JSD was saying "rationality" "modernity" were used to impose Christian worldview, even though, in reality, the words themselves and their meanings have nothing to do with Christianity. I think this very subtle point is missed by our podcast intellectuals.

EPISTEMOLOGY OR MEANS OF KNOWLEDGE 5. प्रत्यक्षानुमानागमाः प्रमाणानि pratyakshānumanāgamāh pramaṇāni. Direct perception, inference, and evidence of background knowledge, are proofs. (Patanjali Sutra 1.7) The above aphorism from the Yoga Sutra epitomises the Sanātana approach to gaining true knowledge. Of the nine darshanas in the Indian philosophy (six orthodox darshanas - Veda, Vedānta, Yoga, Sāṃkhya, Nyāya, Vaiśeśika; and three heterodox darshanas - Buddhism, Jainism and Ćārvāka), each one of them relies on a certain number of valid means of gaining knowledge. These are: 1. Pratyaksha - Empirical Evidence 2. Anumāna - Inference 3. Upamāna - Analogy 4. Arthāprapti - Deduction 5. Anupalabdhi - Non-existence 6. Shabda Pramāṇa - Scriptural evidence, or Background knowledge The nine systems of Indian philosophies have their own ways of treating these evidences as valid means to knowledge: 1. Veda - all six 2. Vedānta - all six 3. Yoga - 1, 2 and 6 4. Sāṃkhya - 1, 2 and 6 5. Nyāya - 1, 2, 3, and 6 6. Vaiśeśika - 1 and 2 7. Buddhism - 1 and 2 by the Buddha, 6 added later 8. Jainism - 1, 2, 3, and 6 9. Ćarvāka - 1 only In every Indian system, which obviously includes Hinduism, empirical evidence, or knowledge gained through direct sensory perception is common to every darshana, or philosophical system. The empirical is also placed at the highest pedestal in every system. What is most striking in this elaborate methodology of gaining knowledge is the fact that the Shabda Pramāṇa, or the Scriptural Evidence in our context is worthless in the absence of empirical evidence, or the Pratyaksha Pramāṇa. Isn’t this also the way of Science? Srimad-Bhagavatam puts it in a different way, though in a similar vein: श्रुति: प्रत्यक्षमैतिह्यमनुमानं चतुष्टयम् । प्रमाणेष्वनवस्थानाद् विकल्पात् स विरज्यते ॥ १७ ॥ śrutiḥ pratyakṣam aitihyam anumānaṁ catuṣṭayam pramāṇeṣv anavasthānād vikalpāt sa virajyate From the four types of evidence - Vedic knowledge, direct experience, traditional wisdom and logical induction - one can understand the temporary, insubstantial situation of the material world, by which one becomes detached from the duality of this world. Further elaboration may be had in the Mahabhārata: ‘pratyaksham hyetyormūlam kritantai etihyorapi, pratyaksheṇāgamobhinnah kritanto vā na kinchan’, essentially meaning that in case of a conflict between direct evidence and inference/scriptural evidence, direct evidence shall prevail because it is at the root of both inferential evidence and scriptural evidence. There cannot be a greater acceptance of the scientific method. Srimadbhagwadgita, the last word in Sanatana Dharma has Shri Krishna going to the extent of saying that if you have experienced the Truth, even Vedas are of no use - I treat it as the ultimate expression in privileging the pratyaksha pramāṇa over even the Vedas, which many traditionalist claim to be the revealed word, a generally wrong translation of Apaurusheya: yāvān artha udapāne sarvatah samplutodake/ tāvān sarveshu vedeshu brāhmaṇasya vijānatah 46॥- Translation: A Brahman knowing Brāhmaṇa has only that much use for the Vedas as a man surrounded by great mass of water has for a small pond. Adi Shankaracharya also said: ‘gnānam na purushatantram, kintu vastutantram’ - knowledge is not derived through word of command, but through objective reality. Sutra 9 of the Patanjali Sutra, Samādhi Pāda makes it even more explicit: ‘shabdagnānupāti vastushūnyo vikalpah’ - acquisition of knowledge through scriptural evidence is delusional in the absence of objective corroboration. This is an illustration of the Sanatana Dharma’s concern about the right means of knowledge through scientific and objective methods, and through blind belief.

"Sanatana Dharma’s concern about the right means of knowledge through scientific and objective methods" You mean only vedanta school of thought because carvaka rejects it and vedanta does not require only 6 methods alone there is also a mystical insight aspect of it in yogacharya plus buddhism is not vedic dharma looks like you have assorted gallimaufrey of epistemic thought in indian tradition and highlighted them

Mehra ji, I have been living in the U.S. for over 40 years and seen gradual changes both in the composition of Indian community as well as the way we are treated here. I see no oppression! But the discrimination definitely exists. It shows in the earnings difference, believe it or not. The indian community as a whole had a high family income mainly because we also have the highest level of education. Nearly twice the level of college graduates compared to the American average. If you compare the income of comparably educated Indian family with same level white family there is a distinct and vast difference. The white family earns much more. In recent decades the less educated Indian immigrants have brought in Indians who do bot enjoy the advantage of high education that my generation had. They must deal with the harsher reality. What remains a strange puzzle is the recent agitation of alleged caste discrimination in America. The allegation amounts to the assertion that casteHindus have so much clout that even in America they practice caste politics. They don’t have that power. The accusation is clearly not directed at the American system but at Hindus. Some universities have set caste as equivalent of race, an indication of how poorly the academia in thus country is informed and what a poor job Indian academics have been doing knowing Hindu scriptures and teaching about them. Oppression of dark skinned christians by white skinned christians is not considered part of christianity but a social phenomenon. But castes are treated as part and parcel of Hinduism. The Hindu American Foundation is leading the effort to educate the officials and fight for an accurate presentation of Hindu traditions.

I know it's quite late for this comment but Kushal is talking about the occupation based varna system too, he says before this "...Harsh Madhusudan Gupta doesn't agree with birth based jati varna... I say we should destroy this whole system which has been going on for 4 to 5 thousand years..." He believes in scrapping the entire concept of varna, whether occupation based or birth based. Surely, the occupation based system has been going on for at least 3500 years, and it may have existed even before that.

Atheism is Neo Abrahamicism, it's militant in nature and goes against the spirit of polytheistic idea of coexistence; also not believing in God and Goddess is an integral practice of certain sects of Hindus like Samkhya, but they call themselves Nastik and not Atheist as they are completely different terms and shouldn't be used for one another. 🙏🏻
