Let me be real with you, you shouldnt trust chatgpt when asking about skateboarding culture in countries🤠 I live in this small town in Finland that has no skate shops whatsoever, and when i asked chatgpt about my citys skateboarding culture, it claimed there skateboarding shops in the city and very modern skatepark, while in fact we have no official skatepark at the moment. But yeah just wanted to say that Chatgpt doesnt always have accurate answers. Love your videos.

ChatGPT said that because it doesn't really "know" what it is writing about. It basically puts words together based on how likely those words are to be displayed in said order in reference texts. In this case, when you asked ChatGPT about a skatepark, it just put a bunch of words together based on other texts about skateparks that it's had access to.

Chat GPT is an AI language module, not a search engine nor is it connected to the internet, it is trained on a data set. It is known to make up and give incorrect information. It is more useful to help write emails and pieces of literature if used correctly. Also, it's data set is only trained up until 2021.

I visited south korea in 2012 to skate with some friends for a few weeks and it was amazing! The food and culture is great, however during the trip we took a bus to the DMZ (right on the border of North Korea) and there were some really strange things happening like we noticed there weren't any trees on the North Korean side, and they had hundreds of people digging in the fields by hand for no apparent reason. We learned a bit of their history during the trip as well and I think it's a good call that you decided not to travel there

It was probably a prison camps detainees doing there daily job of digging a hole literally by hand. If said hole does not meet the standards for depth and width and length by end of the work day they probably end up in the hole. Or maybe since there were no trees as stated they are planting trees but no tools as part of the punishment. Who knows with the (I’m sure) sadistic guards those poor prisoners would have to deal with. And all for as little as forgetting your pin when you left home in the a.m. or saying you don’t agree with something done by your leader. Fucking crazy to think of the everyday life being that way in places in the year 2023.

North Korea has a lot of "only one in North Korea" so that they can say that this exists there. Same with shopping malls with no stores, high rise apartments that no one lives in, a Korean Orthodox Church that hardly anyone attends, etc.

Cool video! Here are some thoughts about the questions u bring up (english is not my first language, but i'm doing my best here). The no use of metal on the skatepark probably is because all the resources go to other industries, all the comercial sanction transform any international comerce almost impossible and like anyother country, no one is self sustainable, so any resource them manage to produce or buy from oversees is expensive af. The same happens to Cuba, Iran, in some extension now with Russia too. Some information is possible to find on the internet if u search for "North Korea metal shortage" Now about foreign culture going inside the country is a good question, all i know is that they have, movies, books, music and others cultural products from other countries, there is a lot of video of people visiting the country and showing this. The others questions i don't have knowledge enought to argument. Keep it up with the great work.

Also, don't forget the bias the AI have, and the bias when we are searching the internet, every time i search for some controversial topic e do 2 seaches, one in a positive way questions, and other with negative way questions and confront the results, it's a good pratice for any type of searching.

Though I wouldn't want to live in North Korea, it is so strange to listen to someone talk about the lives of the common person in North Korea, and, of all things, think "I'm glad I live in the United States"...the only "developed" country where there's a mass shooting every other day. Life can look like much more than we're living in the US.

i got heavily into this topic many many years ago because i was checking out skatespots from Madeira in Portugal (and other Island societies/i am from Fyn Denmark and so this topic just fascinates me in general) i realized that "Island" can mean a lot of things and North Korea specifically came to mind - I can tell you for a fact that this is NOT the only skatepark in north korea. i also went down a rabbit hole of PUST and all their international teachers; and i use these things frequently when i talk about people whom are ignorant of North Korea - yes there is a LOT of bad things about the country but i can tell you with a fair degree of confidence that the middle and upper class are really not that different from (see:) China (not necessarily the west) you can find skate videos from NK which does feature grinds and slides and mostly positive interactions with locals and officials (they were very respectful of the boundaries) there also used to be a KZfaqr whom was a singaporian university teacher that was expat'ing to NK; he would carry around a body cam to literally ALL the places you are not meant to see such as. street food vendors, grocery stores that don't have a magical exterior (they mostly trade in dollars and euros) it was a really fascinating deep dive and i encourage you to check that shit out. However what you got here is the most famous skatepark in North Korea and if my memory serves me correct it's actually a rollerblading and scooter park. Now keep in mind, this should not come as that big of a shock to you - Kim Jong Un maybe a "ruthless dictator" but he has shown an incredibly high degree of respect for western world sports and i can almost guarantee you the basketball programs in NK are better funded than in my country (Denmark again)

Hey John, i have a question. It's about my stance. Basically ive been skating on and off for like a year in regular stance (I'm now 19). I've now noticed almost all of my favorite skaters skate goofy (For example; Yuto Horigome, Nyjah, Shane, Paul Rodriguez, Eric Koston, Tony Hawk, Sora Shirai, Ishod Wair.. the list goes on). Im wondering if i should switch stance or if it's too late for me. If you have any advice or words of encouragement it would help me out a lot since it feels like im fundametally different from all my idols which makes it seem even more impossible than it already did just to become anywhere near as good as them.
