This reminds me of when I was a kid, growing up on my Grandmother's farm in the 70's before my family moved to Hawaii. My Grandmother who was a child during the great depression was VERY FRUGAL, they grew and ate EVERYTHING, nothing went to waste, every food item then bought was "day old", etc. in an effort to save a penny or two because of their upbringing, plus being Russian immigrants, they know what going without was like. ANYWAYS, when my grandmother made Tuna Salad, she put literally anything she could find in there to stretch that small can of tuna out. She put tomato, onion, celery, carrots, walnuts, cheese cubes, anything she could find to stretch that can out. She could make 12 sandwiches with one small can of tune, no joke... Thanks for sharing Chef JP, I always make your recipes, and my family always love them!!!

I loved watching him do that but I'm 89 years old and I could never put all those things together I do it very simple with just the drain water from the tuna and mayo fresh onion celery if I have it and sweet pickle relish by that time I'm really tired standing so mine is just a quick one but I would like to eat his recipe. So thank you for the video and I'll be looking for you again.🤩🤩

I love tuna salad and stuff a tomato or halved avocado with tuna salad all the time. I've never thought of adding fennel, so I'm going to try it. I use cornichons instead of capers. For me, a tuna melt with sharp cheddar on thick cut toasted sourdough is one of the best sandwiches ever. God bless you Chef, you are my favorite KZfaq chef.

I was a cook in a small luncheon restaurant and a woman came in and asked for a Tuna salad....I thought What ??? So i stuffed a tomato with tuna fish with a bit of celery and sweet pickle . Placed it on a bed of letuce and used a potato peeler and shaved a cucumber. On top of the tomato was a devil egg . The woman was totally thrilled with it because she thought she was just getting tuna salad sandwich 🥪 . Unbeknownst to me she was the owners best friend. I end up with a $ 20.00 tip plus the owner hired me for 7 days a week with a $1500.00 salary a week ...she loved my homemade meatballs too ❤😂

Chef I made two dinners for my aunt and uncle this weekend. The first was the chicken scallopini with the lemon caper sauce and the arugula. The second was the bacon and onion quiche I added mushrooms and spinach and both were massive hits. Although I wasn’t super happy about the chicken as far as consistency. The first three chicken breast were perfectly golden but I think the mistake I made was not cleaning the pan after the first batch because the Panko on the fourth and fifth pieces and I’ve been like a little bit burnt. And even though they cooked fine and tasted great they weren’t golden like the first ones. The quiche I was told was the best they ever had. I was very happy and wanted to thank you for the guidance and inspiration.

This type of salad is one of those things that get better when you rest it in a fridge for a few hours at least, the flavors combine together and the sauce takes on all the juices from vegetables. The tuna will also absorb some of the sauce so you may want to save some extra sauce too if the salad is too dry when serving. Great recipe as always :) personally I like a little bit of lemon or lime zest in there too.

Just watched a real, honest to God chef, make tuna salad... And from a can no less! This man appeals to the masses, because he cooks for the masses... what makes him great, is that he cooks food that normal people would cook at home. Not like the majority of KZfaq "chefs". I hate tuna salad... But I'd eat this just on principle. 😂

One time I went to a restaurant and they served swordfish over a tuna salad made with corn and something like thousand island dressing. It was very interesting with the dryness of the swordfish and the fattiness of the tuna salad, texture of the corn. I liked it.

A local restaurant/fish monger sells tuna packed in olive oil when the tuna are running, I find the tuna significantly better than any canned tuna I have tried. It might be worth while making your own. The pack is one chunk of tuna in a Mason jar. Since the fish is in one piece the flesh is not very oily. Tuna packed in water seems to sort of dissolve to some varying extent for some reason.

I love my Tuna Salad on a sandwich. I remember I tried it first time in the UK when I was 9 years old. That was the most tasty fish paste with corn, lettuce and tomatoes I had in my entire life. To all you Brits, I wish the salt and vinegar crisps flavour was more worldwide. It's too good to be just your regional flavour

Thanks, Chef JP. Tuna Salad is one of my favorites also! (I use less mayo and more plain yogurt. Pass on the sour cream.) Yes, Yes re shallots or tiny mince red onion. And dry dill. And non-pariel capers, of course. (Sometimes I give the capers a rough cut!) Also, always celery & fennel (if I have it). Sometimes I even add chopped golden raisins and a spoon or 2 of curry powder! (Not for everyone, but usually Well Received.) Thanks for this opportunity to share! I'm so delighted to have met you, via KZfaq, shortly after you took the plunge. I love tuna salad so I had to watch this one, but turns out this might be one of the few of my favorite Chef's recipes I'd have to heavily alter. I'll definitely try adding sour cream and yogurt but I guess I'm just not a fan of such a chunky tuna salad (or dill or fennel or capers). Little bits of onion/shallot and celery is about as much crunch as I'll go for. Definitely want to try it in a tomato though. And I like the idea of adding hot sauce. Sometimes I like to mix plain tuna and hot sauce to eat on crackers.

The solid packed tuna is a better cut from the fish. I use a fork to mash it to my desired consistency. Chef's Bumble Bee brand is farm raised but Chicken of the Sea is wild caught, which I prefer. Same cost. I add chopped pimento olives and onions for flavor. Ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice and Worcester makes a good seafood cocktail sauce that gives me the flavor profile I prefer. I find that mayo is the only fat needed, so no sour cream or yogurt.
