If you want to see a live performance of this you will find it under Lancashire Blues, the theme's real title performed by Carl Woodoison on trumpet with myself accompanying him. I hope you all enjoy it.

And another fun fact is they were going to call the show "Florizel Street" and decided to change it.
@joshsheekey55122 жыл бұрын
Tony Warren was going to call it Florizel. Street but changed the name to coronation street because the earlier name sounded like disinfectant so I believe the story goes

One last addition. I've discovered Eric Spear was quite a prodigious composer - and simultaneously, an actor. He worked for forty years. I have now done a BIOGRAPHY for him (the ONLY one on the Interweb) which you can find by Googling "Damien on... Eric Spear" (URLs won't work on comments) - or check the info panel to this piece (where URLs DO work). This has been an entertaining day.

I remember watching the very first episode when it was broadcast to celebrate Corrie’s 50th anniversary.

I like the bit they cut off the original ending music. It's more reflective and introsxopic before it kicks into the theme
@RJBinghamesq11 жыл бұрын
Hmm again. I just re-watched it and it has certainly had SOME restoration. Like the logo at the start doesn't look contemporaneous with the episode. Also, listening to the music - it sounds a bit too CLEAR, compared with the original sound. Plus there DO appear to be a couple of subtle differences from the original I remember (yes, I'm THAT old - I watched it as a boy). So yes - restored: using the mid-Sixties version of the music, I think. But I'll leave the title as is - it's SORTA original!

Still more: another uploader has put the 2005 original version - WITHOUT cutting off the end - and it's clearer (but submerged in YT search's "duplicates"). He's "mrMustache1996". Eric doesn't appear to have done much else - although six years before the Corry theme, he composed "Meet Mister Callaghan" - a sweet piece, covered by EVERYONE. I myself have a version up, by Semprini - check it out! This has been interesting - it's why I "service" my comments! Thanks, Cane (Cane?!) Regards, Mike.

Hmm. If memory serves, I cut it from the kinescope of the 1960 episode 1 - so it SHOULD be the first recording. However, it is possible said kinescope got damaged at the beginning - in which case, maybe they "restored" it by tacking on the opening from a later kinescoped episode...

More: research has told me that Eric Spear died (at only 58) just six years after recording this, the solo trumpet intro was never used and it was never released commercially until 2005. Further, Eric did MANY takes of it until he was satisfied. Oh, and its actual title is "Lancashire Blues"! There are two other versions of it on YT - a Woolworths' Embassy Records cover (yecch!) - and the FULL original from the 2005 release (but that sounds "fluffy" and the uploader managed to cut off the END!)

The trumpet was played by Ronnie Hunt, who was in fact a cornet player.

I think that the Granada Production caption in 1960 was very atmospheric. I may not be a fan of the soap but I could happily watch old episodes from its first two decades - I've even got books to commemorate the soap's quarter century and first thirty years. If the original scriptwriters only knew about the heavy storylines of recent years (in particular Bethany's ordeal at the hands of a paedophile ring) they'd be doing quadruple fucking SOMERSAULTS in their graves!

Its a rip off of Glen Miller, Moonlight Serenade.
@RJBinghamesq10 жыл бұрын
I think that's a bit of a stretch. Glenn was undoubtedly an influence on Eric, given the latter's age - but then think of "The Human Jungle" theme, by Bernard Ebbinghouse - orchestrated by John Barry. Similar rhythm and feel also. But rip-off? Naaah.
