Zorba the Greek.Greek title: Αλέξης Ζορμπάς (Alexis Zorbas) is a 1964 film directed by Cypriot Michael Cacoyannis and starring Anthony Quinn as the title character. It is based on the novel Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis. The supporting cast includes Alan Bates, Lila Kedrova, Irene Papas.Oscar 1964.

No mourning for Mikis; he's got a fantastic company up there are waiting for him; the three most prominent Greek poets (two of them Nobel prize winners) the work of whose he immortalized through his music (Seferis, Elytis, Ritsos), the great Nikos Kazantzakis, whose Alexis Zorbas gave Mikis the inspiration to write his syrtaki, one of the most memorable and recognizable pieces in the history of music, his good and beloved friend, and one of the best (maybe THE best) performers of his music, Grigoris Bithikotsis, his fellow freedom fighters from his guerrilla days (because Mikis was also a warrior and a member of the resistance during the German occupation of Greece).

RIP theodorakis but this song is composed by George Zambetas. Mikis just stolen as many other Greek music masterpieces!!!! Thanks also to great Manos Chatzidakis (awarded with OSCAR ) , Mikis never awarded abroad. Only by Soviet Union after order by Greek Communist Party (KKE)!

My friend, America and Britain only became involved in that horrible conflict to save people. Naïve, but America really believed that they could save people. We're in a different phase now. They saved Britain in the 1940s and it's not forgotten.

My father had some of tapes Mikis Theodorakis produced with Zülfü Livaneli. I first listened to him from those tapes when I was a kid. I will always remember your humanity and your music. I feel so sorry... Rest in peace.

Πολύ θλιβερά νέα έφτασαν σήμερα. Ο Μίκης Θεοδωράκης, το ελληνικό είδωλο της μεγάλης και υπέροχης μουσικής, μας άφησε για πάντα. Όμως η μεγαλειώδης μουσική του με τους όμορφους ελληνικούς ήχους θα μείνει για πάντα, όπως και οι αναμνήσεις μας από αυτό το μεγάλο παιδί της Ελλάδας. Με τις καλύτερες ευχές και τους χαιρετισμούς μου από την Αυστρία στην Ελλάδα.
