National Geographic and Disney+ are releasing a documentary called "The Mission" about the life and death of John Allen Chau. While they interview many of his friends and family, there's more to the story. Dr. Mary Ho, International Executive Leader of All Nations, the organization that trained John before he went to the North Sentinelese, shares her personal memories of John and why she is convinced following Jesus' command to take the good news to all nations is worth every risk. Learn more at allnations.international/john...

This young man seemed to me to be obsessed about being the saviour of a people who wished to remain in their way of life without the interruption from the outside world. He deliberately broke the law by going to the island he knew he wasn't allowed there but his ego and his belief that he could break through the language barrier because he had God on his side. The people on Sentinel didn't want him there, his arrogance and self-entitlement took him there, not his god, regardless of all his consultation and research, he tried to invade a people who didn't want him there and he paid the price. Many people, apart from his family and church, will remember him as that fool who thought he could Christianise a tribe who have their own life and choose to live it their way.

It doesn't matter what people say about John, what matters is that he did what he thought God wanted him to do. I have no doubt he is in heaven right now. Eternity is more important than our temporary life here. John made the right choice.

John Chau convinced himself that God had personally called him to "save" the Sentinelese. Sadly, the voice he told himself was God was actually just the voice of his own ego.

What places did you missionaries convert, that did not get colonized?

Missionary activity has been happening ever since the 1st century regardless of the colonial period of history. So it would not be a cause and effect.

He went illegally on the island, bribed fishermen which is illegal. That alone does not glorify God's Name at all. He set under false teachings & clearly did not understand the Sovereignty of God, thinking that without him God would never reach those people. And how in the world was he gonna proclaim Jesus to them if he didn't speak the language?! Now these people even more unreachable. Guy died for absolutely nothing but his pride thinking he's gonna be the one to reach those people, become famous. Whoever is teaching that Jesus has not returned yet because not every single tribe has been reached is teaching false stuff & John believed that false stuff. Clearly, studying the Bible was not his priority. Actually, finishing ORU says it all, flse teachings & nothing more. He didn't glorify God's Name nor did he make any progress in reaching those people. I'd even question his salvation considering him going so far as to illegally go to that Island & bribing people who ended up in prison because of him after that trip.

We are to obey human laws to the point they don’t contradict Gods laws. Hiding jews in 1930’s germany was illegal do you hand over your neighbor jew to the Nazi party if you live in germany at the time? peter was beaten by the religious leaders and told do not teach in Jesus’s name again . His reply was “we must obey God rather than man.” Human laws at times are completely arbitrary and should be disobeyed. Btw India who made it illegal to go to that island has a law that it’s illegal to try and convert Hindu’s into christians. Again completely arbitrary nonsense laws we are commanded by God to disobey. Cowards do not inherit the kingdom of God. The fisherman who took him to the island were christians too and fully understood the risks. Going to prison is almost a pastime for the saints of history.

In response to Dr. Ho's comment that Christianity is a "global faith," yes, that is true. However, Christianity didn't arrive in Taiwan until the 16th century C.E. So the Christianity that came to Taiwan had already been filtered through a Western cultural lens for the preceding 1,500 years.

The guy had it coming. He knew what would happen and he did it anyway. If god was real, he’d probably look at John and be like “I don’t know this idiot. I don’t claim him.”

I am a Christian living in London UK. Even though the documentary has some mistakes in it i really like it. I really happy with the churches/evanlegical world obsession with the great commission is being challenged. Most churches in the UK teaches you how to he a 'good Christian 'and being an evangelist. But hardly any preaching on our own repentance or walk with Christ. Time for this mindset to be challenge.

@bobstrauss9413 3 hours ago John Chau was not a martyr but an obsessed fanatic who valued his obsession more than life. His life was wasted on that island and he knew it would be that way. Perhaps he had a death wish. Those people just want to be left alone. John's life could have been better spent ministering to people in prisons or inner cities. He could have taken at risk kids on nature hikes. But no , he deliberately chose death over life. His death was more like a suicide.

“Life waisted?” A lot of people slog through 90 years of life and never truly live. Full of regrets at the end. Some though live short but full life that burn brightly and burn out. I take it your a atheist? Let me as you a question who’s to say john chau is unethical if morality is subjective?

It is PERFECT that you believe, enjoy it allot but please leave other well thinking humans ALONE and dont antagonize them with your fairytale believes (keep them for yourself) . That YOU believe in BS doesnt mean you have ANY right to push it onto other people. For that CHAU, thankfully he died and didnt infect a population with diseasesof the body and mind.

We dont need to see the results...its Gods timing...and its God will...like in the case of the Aucas....just because you dont see anything happening doesn't mean God isn't at work...ultimately it is not about the world to see what happened its about the people coming to know Christ eventually

The Last Days of John Allen Chau is an article that was in Outsider Magazine. It was very good and very respectful, and spoke about some of the other Islands in the chain, like Nicobar. They are Christian because one of them became a believer and brought the faith back to his people. The article is being made into a movie by a Taiwanese director, Justin Lin. I hope it is made with the tone of respect that was in the article. John is a hero of the faith. Who knows what impact his death could make in the final analysis; "if a corn of wheat falls into the ground..."

I watched the documentary. I am a Puerto Rican Christian. This documentary was so one sided and clearly had Its own agenda to degrade Christian’s and missionary’s. It made no sense to me how this one x Christian and missionary ran the whole documentary. When you can clearly tell this man was burnt out by ministry. I think it’s funny how the “western world” continues to push that Christianity is a “western religion” and then leave out all of the orthodox Christians that aren’t white or from the west. All of the Christian’s around the world who are Christian. Multiple indigenous people who are Christian and don’t regret It. Of course they leave that out. Now do I feel there could have been a little more wisdom for that young man to go to the north sentinelese people. I feel like he could of gotten a little more creative with his approach. I hope and I pray he really was sent by the lord and he didn’t do this in his flesh. We will find out soon enough what the fruits of this situation will be. I know one fruit is I began to pray for the north sentinelese I pray other Christians will do the same.
