This is one of the issues of starting to learn about History and Islamic politics before your Aqeedah. I don't see any person affected by Khawarij except that they're ignorant or started their knowledge journey with politics/history. If you start with Aqeedah, you'll look at these matters with a clean lens of Quran and Sunnah. If you start with History/Politics, you'll look at Aqeedah from that lens, and will try to choose the Aqeedah that fits your political views, that were originally formed by your emotions.
