About the movie:
The Outpost is a 2020 American war film directed by Rod Lurie, based on the 2012 non-fiction book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by Jake Tapper, about the Battle of Kamdesh in the war in Afghanistan. It stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom, Jack Kesy, Cory Hardrict, Milo Gibson, Jacob Scipio, Will Attenborough and Taylor John Smith. The film was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 South by Southwest Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This movie was perfect, it was realstic, gritty and it really made you hurt when one of them would get killed or end up getting mentally scarred, cause they actually gave the characters backstories and emotions, just like in 13 hours.

its not at all realistic, irl, it takes like 20 bullets to down one man, and guns dont sound as bang bang, but more like a pathetic pew pew in the open, and also, there isn't any flash when you fire a gun, there's just some little dust or something moving from it, thats it, and the grenades i see here blowing up, MAYBE make an explosion 1/10th of what we see here, so yeahhhh, nooo

That's always been a huge gripe I've had with war films, or for that matter action films in general, the way grenades explode in fireballs. That said, by far my biggest is the lack of reloading. Im plenty willing to give it some leeway, you know instead of 30 rounds being fired - maybe little over 40 or somethin. But in most films they literally never reload despite having laid down a constant fully-auto barrage, or at best, reloading after a good 60 to 70 rounds instead of the thirty rond capacity of most standard assault-rifles/carbines. Even one of the top ten, or even top five shootout/firefight scenes in film history, the one at the end of "Heat," despite constant full-auto there ae literally a total of 4 reloads total for both the cops and the robbers. You only see Robert reload 2 and Val only once. That said, over the past decade this as improved by leaps and bounds when compared to early 2000's, (let alone 90's and older), action movies/tv-shows in this regard. Which is why whenever i see a modern movie or show where characters never reload their firearm, it just complete kills the immersion for me. This film thankfully is one of the movies out there where they do a great job limiting the round count and having a decent amount of reloads.

Just so people know the film tried to follow the actual event that happend, they had survivors with them to make it as realistic as possible, it was probably a lot worse than depicted and less flashy but more chaotic. Overall great film and great exposure to the masses of those tragic event due to a failure of command from the top and idiots with shiny rockers

The only piece of communications equipment that stayed working during the firefight was the SNAP Satellite system, which I worked on. And no, I did not go to this particular base, as I was in RC East, and this battle was the northern end of RC East in AFG. With the SNAP System, they were able to call in air support and kill hundreds of Taliban, and prevent the Combat Outpost from being over run. I am proud to say that two were awarded the US Medal of Honor: for Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha and Specialist Ty Carter. COB Keating.

The movie is based off the book "The Outpost" written by Jake Tapper. An outstanding read. He deep dives the first plans and development for this post. Top brass was warned: "But sir...that is a really awful place for a base." "Sir, this is a really bad idea. A. REALLY. BAD. IDEA. Anyone we drop off there is going to die." Six pages into the book, you are already pissed off by the absolute incompetence of military strategist who planned it. Guess I need to get the movie and get pissed off all over again.

I am speculating over-confidence. At COP Keating, the had artillery support from a based not too far away. They did not count on it being taken out of the fight. I suspect they thought they could get gunships in more quickly and they would be more effective. Some things never change. Since the Brits inn 1842.....a small outpost of 30 -100 guys surrounded and outnumbered 3-1. Fighting for a small piece of real estate.

Just watched this yesterday. What a great movie. The best word I can use to describe it is "harrowing." Constant fear for the guys on screen. I knew from reading about it to Romesha and Carter both survived and receieved the Medal of Honour. Everyone else was a total wild card. Caleb Landry Jones' portrayal of SSgt Ty Carter was particularly heartwrenching. Especially his final scene with the Army therapist. This movie did a stellar job showing the causes and effects of warfare PTSD. I plan on watching it again soon, to try and appreciate the smaller details I would have missed on first watch. 9/10. Only complaint is some of the CG and very small moments where the dialogue felt a bit clunky/scripted. Otherwise, great modern WoT war film.

A medal of honor was issued because of this battle. But it's a medal that shouldn't have been awarded. Meaning, had the higher ups been smart enough to realize how poor of a decision this was to put a COP/FOB in this location in Wanat, this battle would never have taken place. This battle SHOULDN'T have taken place !

Generals use troops as bait a lot. For example, in the march to Baghdad, almost all engagements with Iraqi forces were feigned attacks to try draw enemy forces into a killing zone or away from the main advance. Brass always sacrifices troops because they're playing chess while the boots on the ground are risking death.

At 1:33, the reticle of an ACOG is set up so the stadia (horizontal parts of the ladder) are shoulder width at the range marked next to them. So those dudes are at about 250-300 yards, which isn't a hard shot with an M4.
