Is it a coincidence that this music fits perfectly with The Pacific's intro animatic? Hmm... watch all of it to see / hear for yourself.
Recently, a new video game set in the pacific theatre of World War II, named "Rising Storm" (developer/publisher, Tripwire Interactive), was released. I thought it really captured that same sort of atmosphere which was shown in HBO's TV miniseries "The Pacific" very well. The game itself is extremely fun, go and get it the game on Steam and get the blu-ray DVD of The Pacific. Now. You won't regret it.
I decided, one day, to play the game's main menu music (composed by Chris Rickwood, his website linked below) over Steve Fuller's introduction animatic for The Pacific. To my amazement, it fit almost perfectly, being (in my opinion) better than the original's music (no offence to Hans Zimmer, I really admire his work). It actually made the introduction feel very similar to Band of Brother's introduction, which I missed when I watched this series - seeing how it was meant to be a spiritual successor to that series.
So, I edited the intro, along with a few new scenes (from Steve Fuller's original version, also linked below) to fit the length of the song (since the song was longer than the original intro). This resulted in an extended version, what you see now.
Like this video in order for it to be seen by more people, and share it around.

I prefer this version. It's epic and soaring and even heroic at times, but not all the time like the original, and definitely gives it a more distinctive Japanese character. I watched a review of The Pacific that mentioned this exact point, that the original music was something fit more for Band of Brothers than this psychological horror.

Thanks for watching! Personally, my favourite parts were 0:15, 0:22, 0:36, 0:42 and especially 2:20 onwards, basically any part where the charcoal drawings, transitions or footage were in synch with the music. EDIT (09/08/2020): Looking back at this video, I wish I had known more about video encoding etc; the quality of the footage I recorded wasn't that good and I could have edited some of the transitions better as well. However, I still prefer this music over the original's - makes it feel more in tone with the sad / gritty atmosphere of the series, its setting and its sister series' intro (Band of Brothers). I still can't watch the original intro the same way anymore.

As amazing as the original intro is. I'd rather replace it with this intro. It really captures the whole pacific theater for me. Now only if I could replace the intros

I've workshopped this idea with my brother, also a big WW2 buff. I'd like a really high budget, miniseries, with production companies from all the major powers. America, Commonwealth, Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy, France, China. And each country gets say 1 to 2 standalone episodes, focusing on one story they want to tell about what the war meant for the young men who fought for their country. In the meantime I highly recommend "Unsere Mutter, Unsere Vater" for a really well done German miniseries on the watr

It should probably be set while the Japanese Navy was still competitive with the US navy, so characters could redeploy from islands, or perhaps different characters for each battle? (Maybe even some of the war in China?)

@@peternehemiah1606it would be heavily controversial too since with how rampant war crimes were within Japanese military society it’d be hard to have real but respectable characters when you got things like mass killing and lootings, mass rape, POW mistreatment and executions, mutilation of wounded or captured soldiers, cannibalisms and tribalism(when Japanese garrisons were isolated on pacific islands they would fracture into smaller “tribes”, each fending for themselves and sometimes fighting amongst each other and not just the Allies). The imperial Japanese soldiers were akin to the most vile of Nazi German units. Whose cruelty and even rivaled the SS killing parties in Europe. Every regiment in the pacific was their own Dirlewanger Division.

the only reason it dosnt fit is because(even though I love the song) is because the begining seems to bright for something so dark as the pacific war.
