In this episode, we journey to the small island atoll of the Republic of Kiribati and highlight President Anote Tong’s tough decisions on climate change.
The next documentary produced by the IFAD on President of Kiribati, Anote Tong's position to make hard decisions on the fate of his people in the face of rising sea level and the impacts of climate change.
We’ve received a lot of positive feedback on this documentary and a few requests to have it re-broadcast on Pacific Way.
Tonight, back by popular demand, we relook at the President’s Dilemma.

I would rather helping these people relocated to Samoa (in Savaii) due to climate change than the Chinese as we have more than enough Chinese in Samoa. This will make the island of Pule to be more receptive to the notion of self-determination and work on more diplomatic relations with the U.S. Government. Fonoia FA. Peters

It’s a sad reality indeed for all low lying atoll nations. To think that if they all leave, ina few generations their ancestors would have assimilated into their adopted countries and their identitieslost forever. #Pray for the Pacific

Perhaps the cynical thinking simply is "humans are not exactly an endangered species". On another -- equally cynical -- level the small pacific island nations economically are not very relevant for the "big players". And let's not forget: half of the US population, including the last president of that deranged country, denies the very existance of climate change. On top of it all, as president Tong hinted: what is the solution for a problem that cannot be solved?

Not only home -- ancestral home. 4000 years are a long time and there is this deep connection to the land. Probably most people who are not familiar with polynesian culture fail to understand how deep this connection runs.

The world is so unfair.. the so-called super powers have money to support wars around the world, while pple suffer-misplaced priorities.. The president is selfless n not asking a lot like other nations. The world should come to their aid or we all need to support in any way possible to mitigate such an alarming situation. Go fund me n I’ll contribute something little. Though, I’m not from the South Pacific, I’m a member of the world community..

The Islands are sinking far more than the sea is rising and has been for millions of years and will completely disappear one day, as they were probably a 1000 feet or above sea level at one time. They moved there 4000 years ago when the sea was truly rising and where they came from had already submerged below sea level. Unfortunately lowering C02 will not do a thing.

If Dubai can build island on sea water why can't this be happen for this island by them ask all the rich country of this world if they can help with building massive sea wall to cover all around the island maybe that will help them for another 50 to 70 years life on top of sea water rise that will be the best thing to do for this country and start planning for that and also if anyone can help to donate for small part of the wall just do it in a separate fun account for this purpose ..because its look like President Tong it just talking to deaf ears ..

Australia the "first world" is a big continent have a lot of money and plenty of aboriginal lands Exploited From dominant Australians. Australia supposed to protect and comfort aboriginal People and use it to protect this nice people what Exploited From Them. You can't fight the mother nature. Evacuated to big continent is the the only option and into promise land of no flood. Aloha to all my Pacific Islanders ! We are the aborigines from Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Pacific Islands, Africa and America, only 3% of the total population living most of the unsafe Islands. However, the big continent of Australia, America and Africa are habitable and safer being exploited by greed, wars by the powerful and weaker aborigines comfortably love in pubs and basic needs? Red hot tongs means to cheers "bottoms up". The Portuguese developed a mildly complicated way to do so. That involves red hot tongs. Yup.

Mankind? What an idiot thing to say, Mankind does not control the weather and before you say Global Warming, islands has always suffered this its just more people on the island are affected than say, 1000 yrs ago, they're on a ATOLL for crying out loud, so stop the God bulcrap promise , Rainbows happens because a rainbow is caused by sunlight and atmospheric conditions. Light enters a water droplet, slowing down and bending as it goes from air to denser water. The light reflects off the inside of the droplet, separating into its component wavelengths--or colors. When light exits the droplet, it makes a rainbow. You watch too much Ken Copeland

Dissolve the government and offer to become US territory. The population can then be moved slowly to American Samoa or Guam, Hawaii or to California where there is already a large population Pacific Islanders. I am confident that Trump would not object to this idea.
