RIP James Horner. No one will ever replace you.

James Horner found the exit.

I really don't know why this isn't a beloved film. It should be regarded as a children's classic. Great characters, great score, great animation, and a great concept.

It was 1994. I was barely 5 years old, still living in my birth home of Charleston, SC, and my parents were (unknown to me at the time) getting perilously close to divorcing, which would have destroyed my childhood. Each of them dealt with this in their own way, my mom would take me to the big historic library downtown when we had the chance, and my dad took me to see a movie one day, and gave me the choice of which film to see. I picked "The Pagemaster", and to this day, even after I returned to Charleston as an adult almost two decades after I moved away (we moved to Lexington, KY in spring of 1995 and my parents decided to stay together until I was 18 years old) this movie holds a special place in my heart. It's a reminder to me that all things must change, and even leaving your birth home isn't such a bad thing.

I first heard this theme and thought “WILLOW” .... then I realized it’s by James Horner (same composer). Amazing.

I don't know you very well Mr. Horner but...your music tells all about you. So wonderful and creative, filled with emotion and amazement. Rest in peace

One of my favorite childhood movies...The Pagemaster ...They don't make films simple like this anymore...it doesn't always have to be Oscar chase, big 💵, or politically stated...sometimes a simple can a timeless imprint forever appreciated...Remember that 🎥 world.

Sometimes a simple film can leave an imprint that will forever be timeless and appreciated. I believe The Pagemaster did that.

Highly under rated/under appreciated family film...loved it from the first viewing, a shame it didn't do better, then again, most original and imaginative films seem to suffer the same fate as we are all subjected to further 'Fast & the Furious' films and Michael Bay gets to keep on making what he insists are movies...;)

Takes me back to my childhood. A very underrated classic:)

I saw this film when I was a kid. A few years ago when I saw the movie "Glory" for the first time... all I could think about was how similar the theme music sounds at parts. James Horner did the music for both of them, and he's a brilliant composer, but I thought he'd put a bit more work into making his pieces sound distinct.

This movie changed my whole fucking life.

Some notable comments: Thumbtanic used this theme in the "When Old People Were Really Young"/"It's A Big Ship" transition. So, the movie spoofing Titanic, which featured James Horner's score, ended up using a clip from another of his scores. Talk about a strangely fitting irony. In addition, I know some people commented on the chordal structure similarity to "If I Never Knew You." It also bears a similarity to the song "Stories", from the much maligned direct to video film Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. And given that it is a moment about stories, one wonders if this film had any bearing on it.

Love the opening track! So adventurous!

At the start of the movie we first see Richard waking up from a crash of thunder and lightning his bedroom was full of warning signs, emergency bags and safety helmets. Richard was afraid that everything might endanger him.
