❤🎉 I wish I would have lived back then. People were so much more pleasant. Less wannabes and even those were more pleasant back in the 1960s.

Yes, it was better, peaceful, beautiful and very entertaining. Although some of those qualities can still be found today the people are not as interesting as back then. We used to dress for every occasion, to go shopping, for dinner even if it was at home ( something I still do ) and of course for the evening entertaining at home or outdoors. Imagine getting " dress " for entertaining guests at your own poolside. Those things I do miss.

Produced and hosted by Jack Douglas, an Assyrian born in Iran in 1921. Died in 1994. Pioneer producer of travel TV shows, all filmed in color, from the early 1950's thru 1960's. Douglas provided the blueprint for most travel shows that followed. This video was from AMERICA!, a travel series that was syndicated in America for one season, 1964-65, distributed by CBS. Supposedly, Douglas also owned the master films of all of his productions. However, the only AMERICA! clips available are inferior quality, like this one.

I'm sure that I'm the only one who knows about this man and his show on this thread. Sometime in the 70's he tried to bring back the travel TV show under another name, but, it didn't catch on because of the bad film quality. Probably with today's technology they might be able to remaster those old films and upload them here on KZfaq. Thanks for sharing your memories.

I'm a native New Yorker, and although I lost my desire to re visit Ca. Palms Springs would definitely be an exception to the rule. I know this is vintage footage during a time when décor and civility was the norm, I can't speak for what Palms Springs is like today. I'd have to research that. But if there was ever a place that I so regret that doesn't exist anymore, is Robert Bolzor's "TIROL" Restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate one moment to see that place IF it was open. Oh Well! Great vintage moment, Thx for uploading!

I live in palm springs and man, it is NOTHING like the sleepy town which appears in this film. Big hotels going up, a plethora of great restaurants and, since the pandemic that let people work remotely, housing prices are now insane. Example - 10 years ago friends paid $340k for their sweet, 1200 square foot house. Last month they sold it for... $1.65 million. Still though I wish the town still had some of the quaint charm shown in this film.

@Jeff Spicolli You mean the socialists who created Social Security, Medicare, public school system, highways, fire dept, national parks, libraries, 40hr work week, child labor laws, GI bill, etc.? The New Deal had so much support FDR won 4 terms...one election he won all the states except Vermont. But you'd rather keep protecting the corrupt corporate elite at the expense of the people. You'd rather overthrow the republic and install plutocracy. You great "patriot" you.
