It's amazing that Hollywood has done this scene several times - in various movies - but they have never matched this one. The dark clouds, the blowing winds, those massive walls of water. The ominous look of this whole sequence is quite stunning. Personally, I've always felt that the "parting" of the sea is not quite as astonishing as those scenes where the sea closes back up on Pharaoh's army. It looks so real it's creepy. That's just awesome film making there.
@jamesmoyner74995 жыл бұрын
Milton Smith I suggest watching Dreamworks “The Prince of Egypt” it has a grand scale to it, has some beautiful animation to it, and showed Moses and Ramses to be brothers first and only after time see that they become enemies. They don’t want things to be this way, but it has to be.

I’m 22 and my dad showed me this movie because he had watched it as a kid on a school field trip. I may have grown up in the CGI age but the majesty and grandeur of this execution moves me more than most CGI. Especially since they really did have a gigantic group of people; no manipulation of camera angles. And the way Cecil gave us time to absorb it all by showing everyone walking through the sea and looking around in awe; it’s perfect. I also love the performance of Moses here. He’s strong and firm, total faith in God that inspires me as a Christian. The line “The Lord of Hosts will do battle for us” is unbelievably moving.

My guess is that the actress doesn't speak English and they had to dub her down the line but the dubbing session doesn't go great either. Also, Cecil B. DeMille suffered a heart attack so some scenes were taken over by the second unit director. It's weird that THAT was the take that made it into the final cut considering there's this whole spiel about why Cecil B. DeMille omitted the frog plague because it simply wouldn't work on film. "If it doesn't work, he simply will take it out of the film." Still a great film, though.

I feel bad for the soldiers. They were just following commands. The punishment would be death if they didn't follow the orders of the pharaoh...

I saw this movie with my parents when it first came out in the theaters. All I could think of was, "All those poor horses!!"

my favorite line in that movie is when Moses finishes building Seti's treasure city, after being accused of insurrection by Ramses, Moses said, "Cities require slaves to build them. The healthy make many, the sick make few, the dead make none."

To me I see this movie as the best cinema in human history, the scenes are too great to Denny and faith strengthening, kudos to the crew of 1956 dead and their works will speak on

“Better to die in battle with a God than live in shame.” Great quote, although Ramses didn’t have the courage to go into the sea himself.

Yul Brynner, he gave the best performance in this movie. A lot of terrific acting, Yul puts the film over the top, made it one of the greatest biblical movies, ever. I was a big Heston fan growing up, Yul outperformed even him in this great movie. Charleton Heston even said this, ""Ten Commandments, it's Yul's movie." Yul Brynner's character as the egotistical Egyptian Pharaoh Rameses, best performance in any biblical movie, ever made, IMO. He nailed that role.
