Even Joseph Smith and Muhammad was told and visit by a angels that corrupt scripture. I enjoy watching your videos. I also believe in the charismatic movement I was apart of a Non-Denominational church and the Assemblies of God. I wouldn't suggest this book to anybody from the reviews I heard about it as a inspired "word of god". I appreciate the review it needed to always be addressed.

"God revealed it to me in a dream." I would not want to be that "translator" on Judgement Day! Another intelligent, informed commentary. Bravo, Tim, and amen. I am not Pentacostal in terms of the denomination, but would consider myself charismatic, in the sense of knowing experientially that what are commonly called the Gifts of the Spirit are "alive and well" today and will remain so until our Lord's return. Prophesy and interpretation of tongues, as you (and God) say, are for the edification of the Church in the church setting. I believe it to be a message right from God's heart to ours. Wish I could find a church where they are done decently and in order as is God's expressed will. I prefer to call them manifestations of the one gift of holy spirit within each of God's kids rather than separate individual gifts, because I don't know how else to read that section of Scripture. God definitely switches from gifts to manifestations with the list in 1 Cor. 12:7 so I do, too. Anyway, I have a few siblings in Christ who use that wonky "translation" and now I have this video to share with them. I've said much the same to them as you, but I'm "just Tom". Maybe they'll listen to Pastor Tim. This virtual part of your ministry is such a blessing to all of us. God bless you, my brother.

Thank you so much Pastor Tim! Well done and good for you. 😊 This “translation” has crept into my Baptist church. I now know how to talk with friends considering buying it. In fact I wasn’t aware of the background to this until I saw you, Tim Frisch and Tim Wildsmith discussing it once. Many thanks and bless you for speaking out against error in the Church.

I figured we'd have a similar opinion on this one. I don't understand how it's even allowed to be called a translation. Anytime someone says that they have "special" revelation from Jesus as far as interpreting the Scriptures, that's a major red flag. (Isn't Brian Simmons the one that said Jesus came in a vision to him playing a saxophone at the edge of his bed?) Also, I'm glad that you brought up some of the hyper charismatic stuff. I consider myself a "charismatic with a seatbelt" (I go to an AG church) , but I've seen some kooky stuff in other charismatic churches and meetings. There were definitely some "interesting" things that I saw/heard when I visited IHOPKC years ago as an example (before all the controversy started flying).

According to Bill Mounce (who was on both the ESV and NIV committees) a paraphrase is a rewording of an existing translation in the same language, and he used as an example The Living Bible which was a paraphrase of the American Standard. Since TPT is not based on an existing translation it's not a paraphrase by Bill Mounce's definition. Dr. Douglas Moo said that he has no issues with calling TPT a translation. Also, Brian Simmons never said that there's another chapter for the book of John. What he said was that he saw a *book* entitled John 22. Not an addition to the gospel of John (which he affirms is a sealed book), but a book called John 22, just like the church planting organization called Acts 29 (there's only 28 chapters in Acts). Third, he never said that an angel gave him insights into Hebrew and Greek. He said he named TPT after the angel of passion that he once saw in one of his services. He said that the insights were given by God.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews
@anickelsworthbiblereviews Ай бұрын
@@JewandGreek He said directly that an angel named Passion visited him and that Jesus promised him insights and secrets to the Hebrew and Greek. I don’t care how some dude defines a paraphrase. A paraphrase is to reword anything said or written and that is exactly what this translation does. Not only that, it is a poor one. There are mountains of evidence that Simmons wasn’t even qualified to “translate” a bible. Regardless, it’s nuts. It needs to be avoided.
@JewandGreek
@JewandGreek Ай бұрын
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews When did he say that an angel named Passion visited him? In the story I heard him tell he saw an angel in one of his services and the Lord told him it's the angel of passion, so he took that as the name for the translation. Angelic visitations are biblical. And Bill Mounce isn't "dome dude". He's a highly respected Greek scholar and biblical linguist. If you don't like TPT that's fine, but you shouldn't be spreading false information about Brian Simmons in your effort to oppose it.

I do still believe that prophecy is still available today. And I believe everyone has it today and can speak it. Jesus is the "Spirit of Prophecy" and we all can testified by the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ died and rose again on the last day and he sitting on the right side of the Father. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy Revelation 19:10 NKJV. God doesn't give prophecy corrupt scripture using angelical beings.

Sounds more like a new age translation to me ”“Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says the Lord, “who steal My words every one from his neighbor. Behold, I am against the prophets,” says the Lord, “who use their tongues and say, ‘He says.’ Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says the Lord, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the Lord.“ ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭23‬:‭30‬-‭32‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I’m not a fan of paraphrases, especially when such massive magnificent claims are made by the author. The Bible does not need to be made more powerful, it already is. Just write a book if you have a revelation to share, not an entire Bible. I know people that read the Passion almost exclusively…I just can’t imagine why.

I pray for Brian Simmons...I believe he is most likely deceived and therefore deceiving others. If this was a simple paraphrase and advertised as such, it wouldn't be such a problem, but Brian seems to suggest it's an inspired English bible with a higher level of divine authority. Very dangerous stuff to be teaching.

Where in the bible does it say someone is Pentecostal or this or what? No where, people add things to the bible who is not there, we are not putting a label on ourselves. Jesus said to follow him not to call urself a Pentecostal. We are disciples of Christ. The sum of Gods Word is truth. Labels added on themself. Why is it so many denominations? Because someone took a scripture and made a whole theology out of it. Look at the early church, they didnt say they were Pentecostal or baptist this or that, they only follow Jesus.-

Hello, wow thanks for this informative video! I find it sad and am a bit anxious because I'm a teen currently attending a Fundamentalist-Charismatic church which is similar to Calvary Chapel. However we have a sunday school teacher who came back after moving to a different place years ago and recommended us the Passion Translation few months back. He also does seem to support the 7 mountains view and the astral projections judging by some of the contents of some of his lessons. I thought it was weird. Is there anything I can do? I'm concerned but also I don't think I'm in the position to say things..

I appreciate your honest assessment of TPT and respectfully disagree with some of what you mention. I do agree with you that this is a paraphrase and not a translation. I see it as a pentacostal version of The Message. I read it sometimes in my morning devotions but I don't use it as a primary Bible for daily reading and studying. I also wouldn't recommend it to a new believer. But I also would not recommend The Message either. I see them in the same category. Simmons can be a bit nutty which brings much of the negative attention to it. Now, I await for the Mike Winger mob to go off on my post.
