High School? I remember having to memorize the balcony speech from Romeo and Juliet. The boys had to recite the Romeo part (But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?) and the girls, the Juliet part...in front of the whole classroom and it wasn't even a boy and a girl. We each had to do it alone. I remember that nobody wanted to be one of the first, nor the very last.

The Passionate Shepherd to His Love By Christopher Marlowe Come live with me and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove, That Valleys, groves, hills, and fields, Woods, or steepy mountain yields. And we will sit upon the Rocks, Seeing the Shepherds feed their flocks, By shallow Rivers to whose falls Melodious birds sing Madrigals. And I will make thee beds of Roses And a thousand fragrant posies, A cap of flowers, and a kirtle Embroidered all with leaves of Myrtle; A gown made of the finest wool Which from our pretty Lambs we pull; Fair lined slippers for the cold, With buckles of the purest gold; A belt of straw and Ivy buds, With Coral clasps and Amber studs: And if these pleasures may thee move, Come live with me, and be my love. The Shepherds’ Swains shall dance and sing For thy delight each May-morning: If these delights thy mind may move, Then live with me, and be my love.

William Ling This poem it may seems romantic but it has hidden truths behind all of these flowery promises. It is a parody. Marlowe's intention was to make fun of the pastoral poems. Try to read the analyze about it I'm sure you gonna laugh 😂

HELP ME ANSWER THE QUESTION... 1.Discussing tone and mood Identify the speaker’s mood and the tone of the poem. 2. Marlowe uses rhymes at the end of each pair of lines. What effect does this use of rhymes have on the tone of the poem? 3. What does the shepherd not mention in his courtship? Discussing themes 4. What lifestyle does the shepherd promise to offer his beloved? 5. Do you think the shepherd’s promises are realistic? Why or why not? 6. Do you think the shepherd is a practical person or is he living in illusion? 7. What effect is the repetition of the condition said by the shepherd in stanza 5 and 6?
