Today, we'll take a look at a very nice little knife from Enrique Peña's 'X-Series' production knife series, which sits at a nice intersection between Modern, Traditional, Fancy, and Practical: the Caballero.

I was lucky enough to get a damasteel & blue fat carbon variant from Crane's Cutlery and it's incredible.

Love what Peña is doing these days but I wish he’d bump sizes up. I’ve got huge hands and would be first in line for a 3.6” front flipper

These Peña’s are PERFECT edc size knives to me(6’1” 230lbs med-large glove)….Compact smallest size it can be to STILL comfortably 4 finger grip, can’t notice it at ALL in pocket, edc size blade length and LEGAL in my state, perfect edc blade thickness-not to thin to worry about “abusive” type edc tasks, but not so thick it hinders slicing, cuts great! Just all-around edc PERFECTION to me… I carry an Xseries Apache, trapper, or barlow spey EVERYDAY but will be adding the Caballero to the rotation that just came in the mail!! looks like MORE PERFECTION to me!! Honestly I wouldn’t buy/carry a bigger version even if it was available, but can definitely see why others would want it if hand/handle size WAS an issue…

I was able to get a dama steel white fat carbon Caballero from Crane's Cutlery. Such a great little knife!

It’s the perfect size for me also. I also prefer front flippers. I have a custom Caballero coming soon. I have a Pena Zulu and it’s great.

It sucks a bit that the inlays are glued (makes it impossible, or a huge risk of damaging the inlay, to adjust the lockbar tension), but those look dope! I went for one of the Crane's Cutlery exclusives (white fat carbon and damasteel), can't wait to receive it, been waiting for those for so long!!

I hope there will be a non-inlay option as well. I like the overall shape of the design, but I'm not so wild about the shape/placement of the inlays

G'day Nick, this guy is a top notch designer IMO. Only two things I would say, free spinning pivot doesnt tickle my fancy and does he also have little BH hands too ? lol, only jok'n you're born with what you're born with. It would be good to see us larger handed dudes catered for though. Cheers Duke.

One of those would be nice but what I'd really love is three caballeros, yes three caballeros. I'd probably take them to Baía, have you been to Baía? They have vatapa, they have caruru, they have munguza. Do you like samba? Baía, it is like a song in my heart. A song with love and beautiful memories.

I wish it had either a full finger choil or the smallest sharpening choil possible. Those (far too common) non-committal choils really annoy me. Even Spyderco's no choil is better, IMO.

@@rickdaugherty4581 ahhh I get it. You're one of "those" people who think they can't clip a knife on to their left side, or can't work the frame lock with their left hand. Tell me, why do I have no trouble with frame locks? Or any lock for that matter. I'm left handed... And you literally just disengage the lock bar with your thumb... As for the pocket clip, don't get me started on why they "can't be used" left handed.... ffs, really dude?

Reate needs to stop getting a pass for free spinning pivots. Both Civivi and Ontario make knives that don't have a free spinning pivots at less than 10% the price of a Reate. I've gotten knives for less than $20 that don't have free spinning pivots. We have the technology. Why doesn't Reate?
@matfrenchy2 жыл бұрын
To be honest I tend to prefer free spinning pivots even if they're a bit more of a pain to disassemble, as in my experience those require less often to be kept in place with loctite

honestly, i'm getting a bit tired of peñas designs. they look clean and good, but kinda boring too, at least the newer releases. edit: and the price for such a simplistic little knife...mmh no.

You folks need to come down on your prices if you're going to keep me buying your products. Hell I bought the CRKT CEO in Green for about $40.00 back in the day for crying out loud! Get out of here!!!!! Just my dos centavos Nick. Great video.
