This is the creepiest puppet film ever made, an experimental piece by filmmaker Len Lye in 1933.

M.Lee Cthulhu Well I'm just guessing but I'm pretty sure, due to the fact, the song "Peanut Vendor" was sung by a Cuban woman (hence the style of music), if I'm not mistaken.

It was sung by so many throughout the years, but mostly by male Cubans. But, i have to agree with ya, it does sound like a feminine recording.

cunt Also think about other things, like WWI gas masks. They were built for a purpose, but also happened to be visually terrifying, and soon after it was realized that the enemy found them scary, it was also part of a psychological warfare thing too. They were scary, because they had big bubble eyes, a ragged looking wrinkly surface wrapped around the head, and a long snout used as the breather tube, which made our soldiers look really freaky and unnatural or almost inhuman. A lot of people will say "Oh those are bad ass!" today, because they are scary looking, compared to today's tactical ones, but again, today's stuff is more refined and better built. Which again, possibly plays into the mentality of generations, where today's hot thing is about intimidation and fear, but back then it wasn't originally intended to do that and it wasn't anything special or meant to strike emotional distress. Though war and children's toys are two totally different things, I believe it's the same concept.

To be honest, I don't get why people bash on it. Sure, if the music was something from a horror movie, then it would be creepy. But keep in mind this was made in *1933*, making stop motion was pretty hard back then.

The song is pretty charming and cute it's just the animation kills it. Maybe someday some cool animator will look over it and improve it or even make it better.

So I wasn't looking at the screen when this came up in my playlist, and I was enjoying the cute little song...and THEN I looked at the screen.

Love it. Great animation. Stop Motion is so underrated in modern times.

That was amazing! Thanks for uploading this. It seems short and insignificant, even terrible to modern viewers, but if people will just stop and think about how much painstaking work this involved... I’m surprised I never heard about this before! My 12 year old son found it and shared it with me. He knew it was excellent for its time & important. Must be raising that kid right lol
